Rank the weapons developments from best to worst.

Hello, new guy to the board.
Recently taught a friends son and he is hooked. Before that, haven’t played in 30 years. In my destroyed game box, i even found my original 5 slips of paper, one per country, for random team assignments.

Onto my thread: I also played d&d so i had 8 and 10 sides dice. I remember coming up with new developments, and if you rolled a six, you roll an eight or 10 sided die to see what you got.

I think 7 was armed transports, and while still can be used as cannon fodder, on a roll of one they score a hit.

the eighth was radar, which means anti-aircraft can hit planes on a roll of a one or two.

9 might have been larger aircraft carriers, that can hold three Fighters instead of two.

While i never got to try any of these, because I had a hard time finding anyone that would play the game in the first place, I just remember being excited about the game and letting my creative writing Juices Flow about a game I love

Russia?  WORST possible move in the game.  Sure, build a Yakut IC, defended by your consilidated INF and tank from the Eastern territories.  That is 5 less INF that Germany has to chew through the round after Russia buys it, and perhaps more later as Russia places some units at the new IC to defend against recurrent strikes by Japan… not to mention the free SRB run Japan would get to destroy an addiitional 1-2 Russian INF’s per round.  Not to mention that, no matter what Russia does, Japan WILL take that IC in Yakut, and then start building westerward bound forces to use against Russia.

As always, it depends on the situation……A not often used resource for the allies:

A Russian ic in Yak can be a nice tactical resource at the start of the tech war. In case Jap gets heavies (maybe a lucky last resource), its nice to build that Rus ic in Yak (and move the aa into Yak). Now Jap has the tough choice to take it or not. If they take it, they are vulnurable to allied SBR runs. If not, than Jap can get huge cash flow problems.

In some case (but less often than the Rus Yak ic) UK can do the same trick in Ind. Since both UK and Rus were already in range of Jap SBR runs, it wont make a lot of difference.

it all depends on the country in question. no one unit is best for all of them. but here’s my picks :) :

Russia: INF, sheer numbers can overwhelm the german war machine on a relentles march to berlin

Germany: Tanks/Armor, blitzkrieg, thats all there is to it

UK: trannies, i know it sounds stupid, but without them the UK can’t do much of anything

Japan: anything, japan needs all the help she can get on the mainland, it doesnt really matter what it is, just get units there quick

USA: Carrier w/ 2 Fighters, can we say smackdown?? they can obliterate japan’s navy while also serving to protect units in an amphib assault

now these are just my picks, they might not work for all your strats, so feel free to tweak them to work for you.

Well as Britain I bomb Germany constantly to lower their IPCs.
But I see what you mean, whichever game I play like this Germany gets really strong, but once Japan falls, America and Britain have it in the bag.

The main problem I don’t like about a IC in South Africa is that it takes too many turns to move units anywhere. Once Africa is liberated, that IC basically becomes defunct. Also, I think that US is the key to Africa, not UK.

An IC in Kwantung is the best build of the bunch, but I say wait until at least J3.

Germany must defend on three fronts…
Eastern Europe, Africa and Western Europe.

You should disable the allies fleet as long as possible and hold your territory in Africa as long as possible.

Buy 8 inf and 1 transport on T1 (you can attack Egypt with maximum force on T2)

Keep buying infantry and hold the russians at base untill the Japs are at the gates from Moskou/.

Playing against the AI in Iron Blitz using Axis:

G1 Standard builing of a Transport and Infantry works. The AI usually boats its Russian Transport to join the UK Transport off Canada, leave them alone. Hit the UK SZ with 4 Fighters and the Baltic Fleet. Send a Fighter against the Sub. And your Bomber & Sub against the Battleship. Take West Africa with the Algerian, Blitz out and back with the Lybian Tank, land a Fighter in Lybia, the rest and the Bomber in WE (The AI never builds enough in Kar to ever worry about him hitting EE). Move 2 dudes from Sth E to Lybia. Move everything to EE. Build 4 Inf in SE, the rest in Ger. Collect 34IPC.

J1 Build 3 Transports, save 1IPC. If he built the India IC, ignore it for now, he never uses it right. Hit China with everything, leaving 1 Inf in Man & Burma. Hit Hawaii with Bomper, 1 BB, Sub, 2 Fighter (have to have kamaze attacks on to be allowed to use the 2nd fighter). Bring the Jap Trans to the Solomon Is with 1 Inf from Wake. The Phil Trans with 1 Inf from Phil & 1 Inf from Caroline to Sol Is, Carrier and BB to Sol Is, land Fighers on Carrier, land Bomber in Sol. Land mainland fighters in Burma.

G2 Lots on Inf. Often UK Blitzes over to Algeria, Hit the tank with 2Inf & Figher, Hit Egypt with Tank 2 Inf. Bomp US SZ, usually US only has 2 Trans there, so you usually win without loss, Fighters against any ships in range (often 1 Trans in UK and 1 Trans in Baltic, so 2 Ftr each). Boat 4 Inf from SE to Lybia, move rest to EE, and 2 more into WE. Build 4 in SE and rest in Ger.

J2 Build Inf, save atleast 3IPC. Take Arg with the Pacific fleet from the bottom SZ (where you threaten both Bra & SA from). Boat 2Inf to Burma and 1 Inf + Tank to Man. Depending on losses in China, leave one Inf there and move the others to Burma.

Things to look for from now on:
Ger is looking to boat another 4 dudes into Persia each turn from now on (The AI always leave your fleet alone, but make sure you still keep them together). Other than that, just lose your Air Force taking out what Transports you can and always build all Inf each turn. Jap will win the game alone if Ger holds up the way the AI plays.
Jap will be able to take Bra, US never defend in well enough, and the build a Complex there the build 3 Subs the following turn. Jap will also be able to get the Indian IC the following turn and Soviet Far east safely as well. Sit your fleet in the US SZ, the US sends all his planes to Europe, you he cant very well clear you away. And the following turn hit the UK seazone with the Fleet and the 3 new subs, after this he cant build anymore transports ever. Make mabey 1 or 2 more subs each turn as needed, but start putting money back into the Indian IC with 3 Tanks and Jap Inf + Trans to get them to the main land ready for the win.
