Wow, so in alpha you just have to use the NO’s to boost US economy?
Dutch Territories & +30 rule
-
Hello all,
Does a Japanese invasion of the Dutch Islands constitute “an unprovoked declaration of war against the United Kingdom or ANZAC” thereby triggering the +30 IPC bonus for USA?
Thanks
-
Welcome to the forum.
If you mean the 30 Bonus NO, for owning Western US, the answer is yes. It would also get the other 3x 5 NOs, if those criteria are also met. -
Thank you wittman. I was referring to the one-time bonus of +30 detailed in the updated Political Situation for the United States.
Under The Political Situation for UK/ANZAC on pg 9, the rules state: “Additionally, the United Kingdom and ANZAC consider attacks against any Dutch territories to be acts of war against them directly.”
To make sure I understand your answer & the implications of a Japanese attack on the Dutch Islands when no state of war exists between Japan & UK/ANZAC & the USA:
1. Does an attack on the Dutch Islands by Japan constitute an unprovoked declaration of war by Japan against the UK/ANZAC?
2. Does an attack on the Dutch Islands by Japan trigger the one-time +30 IPC bonus for the USA.
3. Does an attack on the Dutch Islands by Japan automatically trigger a state of war between the UK/Anzac, or must UK/ANZAC still declare war?
Thank you,
RobG4

1. Yes.
2. Yes. (Wondered if you meant this Bonus.)
3. They are at war. They do not need to declare it (back) too. -
Thank you!

Hi, wait… is this what we are saying?
for the special, one time only, 30 IPC US Bonus: that is only given when Japan surprise-attacks US directly, right?
That means a Japan attack on Dutch Territory, UK or ANZAC would not trigger the 30 IPC Special Bonus (it would allow US to declare war on Japan however, with standard NOs)
thx
-
It applies when Japan makes an unprovoked declaration of war on either the US, UK, or ANZAC.
-
What if after a Japan attack on UK/ANZAC, the US does not declare war on Japan? But, waits a turn or two to do so,…
-
The IPCs are received immediately upon Japan’s declaration of war, so that doesn’t matter.
-
wow, thanks. I am thinking of writing a ‘white paper’ just on this topic

@krieghund Hi, I am being told by another forum board member today that a so called ‘new’ errata takes away the +30 rule for the unprovoked attack by the Japanese on the Allies. But, I can’t find that alluded to new errata. Any idea if there was discussion of taking that one time special immediate bonus from the USA? thx
-
@mikemikemike
The bonus is still in effect. There is no “new” errata that removes it. Perhaps your friend is thinking of the fact that the bonus applies only to the Pacific game, and not the Global game? -
@krieghund @mikemikemike I think the confusion is stemming from some members referring to a “one time bonus” in this thread that insofar as I can tell, does not exist. Please correct if I am wrong.

@the_good_captain sorry, right church… wrong pew ! two separate subjects as you correctly point out.

It does indeed exist. From the FAQ:
Page 9, The Political Situation, The United States: This paragraph should read “The United States begins the game neutral. It may not declare war on Japan unless Japan first declares war on it or makes an unprovoked declaration of war against the United Kingdom or ANZAC. Following any such unprovoked declaration of war by Japan, the United States will receive an immediate one-time bonus payment of 30 IPCs, representing the total mobilization and transfer of military assets within the continental United States. However, if the United States is still not at war with Japan by the Collect Income phase of its third turn, it may declare war on Japan at the beginning of that phase. This is an exception to the rules for declaring war (see “Declaring War,” page 11), which may normally be done only at the beginning of the Combat Move phase.” (Note that this change applies only to the Pacific rules, and not to the Global rules.)

OK, now I’m confused. Is your question about this one-time bonus? If not, what is it about?
-
@krieghund two separate questions. both were answered. I am good. 1. the USA can’t get the Dutch Island bonus’ unless the island is liberated from the Japanese. 2. In AA 1940 Pacific, there is a 30 point immediate one time special bonus to USA for a Japanese unprovoked attack upon the Allies. Thanks, ,

@krieghund wow. thank you sir. I looked for this and was convinced it was a ghost. Is there any reason this isn’t on the resources-download page of this website? https://www.axisandallies.org/resources-downloads/
(its also not here: https://axisallies.com/rule-books/ although I understand they may not be affiliated)

@the_good_captain Those haven’t been updated indeed.
But in every subforum we reference the original source for the latest documents, that is

(See for example one of the stickies in this subforum:
https://www.axisandallies.org/forums/topic/18545/pacific-1940-2-rulebook-available-for-download)They usually offer the latest rules documents.
