@hopper1999 I’ve access to both resin and PLA printers, and while resin has a couple of extra steps compared to PLA, I wouldn’t consider it painful. I’ve come to appreciate resin’s ability to show detail even in very small scale. For me its worth the extra steps to clean and cure, for those results. What’s great is there are so many free units available, with some simple editing/converting you can quickly build cool armies.
As for casting, while I haven’t casted any A&A parts yet (still building my unit library), I have casted a lot of 3.75 action figure parts. I’ve gotten best results using a syringe and pressure pot. (I converted a old paint pressure tank). You inject your mold, and then put it under pressure, I’d do around 30psi, to help the resin into the thinner parts of the mold and prevent bubbles. It also helps, when making your mold to put it under pressure as well. I’ve found it helps prevents bubbles in the silicone and between the silicone and the part being cast.
I plan on using casting to duplicate units I already have, that I can’t find stl files for.
DM making a comeback

Those are really awesome. I really love the dremeled bi-planes. Can’t wait to see more.

No problem DM, the amount of things you paint is so impressive. You and Cyanight have done so many pieces. It is just cool to witness, and is very inspiring.
I just hope to get to that point some day. :-D
-
yeah I agree DM, the one thing about quantity is that it can burn you out, or really start to tighten up your lower back lol! I see you hand painted your roundels like I have. Isnt it hard doing the brits? espeacially with the yellow ring, and finally the tiny red dot! I wish I could find of british markings to scale with the yellow ring cause they are a bugger to try and paint and look good. you mix your own colors? the camo’s look very accurate!

Thanks for comments guys, John, time and patience(i know, 2 of the hardest things to master :-)) but it will come. JWO, i’m using tamiya paints mostly, most of the colours come straight from the pot, there are a few colours that need to be darkened or lightened

HOLY SCHNIKIES! Those are Beauties DM! I just want to pull them out of the screen and play “Micro Machines” with them.
-
wow DM I really liked how you drummeled out all that ugly blocky plastic on the stringbag’s. Looks soo much better now that is some customization work! I agree with you as well the HBG Stirling bomber was massive! you try using that piece on a spring 1942 board and there is no way it is too massive next too the Lancaster or Halifax. But a great piece for some research pieces in global for a heavy bomber. I ended up painting panel lines on mine just cause the piece was so big I wanted to add somemore detail. I wish that the king George battleships were a little bigger as well! Enjoying your pieces and historical accuracy on your aircraft! keep posting pics!
ROFL! My last FTF game was Spring '42 and the Stirling was WAY too big for that board. Nice model but I think it may need to be used elsewhere in my plastic arsenal. In fact it’s big enough that you could pre-shade panel-lines with an airbrush and a .2mm or maybe .3mm needle nozzle :D

Thanks for comments guys, it inspires me to keep going, the japanese airforce isn’t too far off now, had the 42.2 board set up so here are a few pics.

Cool pics of your units, DM! It must feel awesome to almost have them done. :-)
Are you going to paint facilities after you paint each countries units?
-
Thanks John, yes i do plan on doing facilities one day, as for being finished, no, don’t think i will ever finish :-D The map set up is with the global units, i would still like to paint the pieces that came with this game, then there is the 41 game, the ‘Amerika’ game which wont be too far away now. I also have plans on painting my ‘memoir44’ and ‘tide of iron’ pieces… :-D But there is still more…lol…

I like M44’s pieces but I thought it would be great to replace all of them with painted Axis & Allies pieces for some scenarios. Especially in the Mediterranean theater where you have to use Germans as Italian units if you use the M44 sculpts.

In all honesty toblerone77, i haven’t actually played the game as yet, just opened the box and looked at the pieces, just another thing on my ‘to do list’…… :-D

LOL I have a lot games like that. However M44 is really good and it plays quick and easy. Best of all my Dear Wife loves it! It’s definitely not the same as A&A but the WWII feel is awesome! It gives you that Band of Brothers feel or The Longest Day. You can literally play a quick game in minutes and the scenarios available are endless.

Same here DM! My wife will go watch a romantic comedy while I’m locked in my room for hours, doing my thing. :-D
We are definitely, total opposites.
Superb job on your Japanese planes. :-)
