U.K. Fleet carrier

Which are the ones in the OOB?  Victorious? Ideally one light and one fleet carrier and not Colossus.

Wasn’t it planes from the Ark Royal that damaged the Bismarck allowing the rest of the fleet to catch up to her? That would probably be a good choice for the UK fleet carrier.

Also chose the Courageous class. Not that familiar with this class but I have heard of it in WW2 films. Don’t know a lot about British carriers. Still think the Ark Royal would probably be the best choice.

Hmm…interesting question. My first choice would be Ark Royal, an important transitional carrier design for the Royal Navy and famous for her involvement in the Bismarck action.  Illustrious is OOB, as you say, and Indomitable was a variant of the Illustrious class, and the Implacable class was another Illustrious variant, so I wouldn’t bother with those three.  Eagle was a clumsy design (a Chilean battleship conversion) and was quite slow, so that one wouldn’t interest me.  The Colossus class light carriers were the basis of the Majestic class carriers, which appear OOB as an ANZAC unit; in one sense this would make Colossus redundant, but in another sense it would be nice to give the Royal Navy its own light carrier class (similarly to Britain and ANZAC each having related but distinct County-class variants as their OOB cruisers) – so Colossus would be my second choice.  Courageous and Furious were half-sisters (both battlecruiser conversions), so one of those two would be my third choice (if I had a third choice).

Ark Royal is (in my opinion) to the British as the Yorktowns are to the Americans: good design, hardy, fleet duty, veterans of famous engagements. If any carrier would be essential for the British, it would have to be Ark Royal. Followed closely by Illustrious.

Malta is a great choice, if logical, since it is analogous to the Midway-class.

So will the Brits get 3 carrier types, like the other nations? Light/Escort - Fleet/Standard - Heavy/Advanced … Though I think the Americans currently have 4 carrier sculpts on the docket.

Light       Furious     = Casablanca
Fleet       Ark Royal  = Yorktown
Fleet       Illustrious = Essex
Heavy      Malta      = Midway

I would actually like to see an HBG version of Illustrious, but if that should be reserved for a basic OOB replacement set, to come at a later date, then that is great.

Since HBG offers a CVE for the UK color (Casablanca) we will do the Ark Royal and Malta for the 2 other class carriers. We will come back and do other carriers at a later date. Thanks for all the input.
