One thing that really makes 1941 a fun, casual game is how easily “crazy” things can happen. There is never a need to surrender either. The quick play time and small number or dice allow for total annihilation and everlasting hope (almost.)
Axis or Allies?
-
With any global or theater game, I’ve had trouble deciding if a noob should play as the Axis or the Allies. On one hand, the Axis usually have the most advantageous starting positions and most starting units. The Allies generally have better incomes but less starting units.
Another issue is I don’t want the noob(s) to get crushed in their first few turns of playing Axis and Allies?
So, should noobs play Axis or Allies first?
-
I would say Axis, because its a favored Axis game…more chances to make mistakes…you make a mistake as Russia, game over. Although, I would abandon the Pacific and go completely for Germany.
-
Axis. They start with more and better units, so buying not as important. They can enjoy expanding while attacking more. They could even take Moscow. ( Back when I first played I dreamt of nothing else!)
As the Allies I find you have to save money at least once, so you can buy lost Naval units, so that might be frustrating for a new player too. -
Good question. I say Axis because they can play with more toys. For example, if you give them Russia, they will be very bored, although we know that Russia is not a ‘boring’ position. Playing as the Axis will keep them entertained. It’s all about creating new players.
Everyone learns or burns when you through them in the fire. And that’s what makes things the most exciting! :P

a nutless monkey can win with the axis in this game.
-
My wife could not beat me the 1st time, but will certainly win the 2nd. She is not a new player; just a psycho one who hates being told what to do.
-
@Cow: So you are half way there with the (crude) nutless observation.
-
Just roll your face around the board and the axis win. GOOD GAME.
-
Not necessarily true. Uk can easily amass 10-12 Inf and with a couple or three of Air hold Germany long enough for the US to dispense Japan and come to their aid.
Germany’s problem is making a fleet and ground units in enough time on 20 IPCs and with only one Western IC.
All this time the UK is producing Inf. -
I think the only chance the Allies have is to go KGF…I don’t see a KJF strat working…once Moscow falls, UK is next, and that’s game. Protect UK by going KGF.
-
It took my wife 10 turns to win as the Axis, as I loaded Uk with Inf. attacked me every 2 turns with max 8 ground units and 4 Air. To speed things up I did a suicide US attack on the Japanese fleet on 4 or 5.( Wanted her to win.) Without this, despite unusually bad rolls for me, I could have still held on.
Does make me want to play 1942 or 1940. -
full barb all day everyday. e z win. round 1 you have to regroup then you advance. eventually you stack up next to russia then you caucasus is yours. eventually russia goes down.
There is germany and there is russia, what is keeping you from advancing? oh nothing. Wow so simple.
-
You need two capitals to win.

@wittmann:
My wife is just a psycho one who hates being told what to do.
I thought that was all woman…. who knew?
-
I should bite my tongue when we play(it’s only a game!), but she makes attacks I never would. I feel I have to point out the impossible odds; that makes her want to go even more!
Games are always quick; she does not think much.
She does love to play though.
On your psycho point: think I have been lucky that way. Not ever had a mentallist for a girlfriend(even after a split up). Heard stories of other women of course. -
You dodged that bullet, whittman. All I seem to attract are the certifiables.
This topic and it’s poll should be renamed. I voted good guys based on the forum title, as I’d rather play as the home team. I didn’t realize it was about n00bs. In that case, they should clearly be bad guys. Makes a more balanced game.

And more fun rampaging around the map with Japanese Inf and German Tanks, feeling the exhilaration of a heady victory in the making.
