“When attacking or defending, hits scored by air units cannot be assigned to submarines
unless there is a destroyer friendly to the air units in the battle.” (Rulebook, page 30)

I’ve been reading old FAQs here and keep seeing Krieghund’s phrase “Subs can only be ignored during movement” - sorry but I don’t get this. What is considered movement here? Don’t you have to move to do everything?
It means that if there are only enemy subs (or transports) in a sea zone, you are perfectly free to move into or through that sea zone and ignore them. However, if there is a mix of units, say a battleship and a sub, you can’t attack the battleship and ignore the sub. You can never attack some units in a sea zone and ignore others. You also can’t start ignoring subs once they’re the only thing left on the other side in a battle. Thus, you can only ignore subs when moving, not when attacking.
OK that helps!
