It’s based on Robert Heinlein books and 50’s sci-fi stuff

I played it and its really fun! :-D but not as good as Axis and Allies 8-)

Looks like it will be in stores this week. Here is a link to the rules .pdf for your enjoyment.

I still have the original. It has never been played at our house as much as A&A, as the strategy is more linear (less flexible). However, it’s a fun game to play with other people who aren’t hard-core wargamers, so it definitely is good in that respect. Now I have the urge to go pull out that box on the shelf….
Is the new version modified, or is it the same as the old game?

Reading through the rules, it plays the exact same except for a few changes and balancing factors.
First, the helicopters have a “scouting” move that allows them to fly over enemy occupied territory and land in an adjacent territory during the first movement stage.
Next, the bombers are allowed to move there first 4 spaces for “bombing” runs that allows them, like helicopters, land in adjacent friendly territories.
Also, there are invader cards that allow them to retrieve destroyed units and bring them back into play as well as dice and movement changes.
Mobile units can transport a troop or partisan the one space they could never go on first movement as well.
finally, the invaders have an opportunity to capture Seattle, San Antonio, and Atlanta and turn them into invasion zones allowing new units to be placed directly into those cities!
I love AA to the fullest but I was the one always talking my buddies into playing fortress as a nice alternative. With this new version, It will be like 1986 all over again….sorry Bill Buckner.

Has anyone played this yet? My dad and I used to play this when I was growing up and it and Feudal are responsible for me getting into these types of board games. A&A is still much better, but I’m interested in getting this to play against my dad for nostalgia’s sake.

I haven’t played it yet but I’ve bought it. The city sculpts are nicely sized to make A&A city markers, if one is so inclined.

Any pics of the game and/or comparisons to the original?

Thanks, didn’t notice the pics at the bottom, but curious how the game differs from the original in playability though if any differances.

I have it and have set it up, but have not yet had time to play. I can tell you the sculpts are beautiful! If you liked the original I would say this is worth it.
