Large scale AA42 map

I dont wanna be that guy, its a really good map and all, but theres something that always bothered me with the 1942 map, and maybe you can fix it :) The island between Sweden and Denmark, (Bornhom) is white on the map, as if it was a part of Sweden, when it is a danish island which was occupied by the germans, so it should be black. And also to put a british roundel on Iceland.

A question about the 1942 map with neutrals. Can the neutral terretories be occupied when theres no IPC points in it? (Eire, Rio de Oro, Angola, Mozambique)

yea sure, as long as they have a name attached to it.

Sorry, no smaller versions of the map are available unless you prefer the map from the box.

Actually - no. The 1942 rules say: “You cannot attack neutral territories, move through them, or move over them with air units.”

Oh, I see. Thanks for the heads up, I was unaware of such a project and assumed that the large map was intended for the original AA 1942 game.

Two maps were made. One just like OOB , and the other with values for neutrals, since the rules sweep them under a rug with no rules to account for them.

Just wanted post a big thank you for the large map. I just got mine in the mail from Vistaprint (medium banner: 4’ × 2.5’). I had to reduce the file size due to Vistaprint’s 12mb limit and over all it printed reasonably well. Some of the small lettering is a little blury, like the purchase table, which while nice isn’t critical. Got it via one of their free poster/banner deals so the cost was dirt cheep,  $10.00 for shipping. (normal price is $29.99+shipping) Like I said its not 100% clear and crisp  like the pdf, but very playable, on vinyl, and I couldn’t beat the price.

The issue of being ‘crisp or clear’ is a printers issue. My own prints came out perfect as they are in highest resolution.

I have this feeling that those idiots took a PDF and converted it to a jpeg because they are so cheap they don’t even have PDF. This is the type of nonsense that Kinkos does and why they should be out of business.

Actually Vistaprint accepts pdfs, just ones 12mb or smaller. Which means one has to do the dispicable thing of reducing your awsome map into a smaller file size which means loosing crispness. The terrain, art work, and borders all still look great, its just the lettering that is blurry. In all its not a bad trade off for a vinyl 4’ x 2.5’  map for only $10.00.

How are you guys getting these maps printed?  Every print shop I contact (including the one recommended by IL) wants permission from the company that makes the game.  Some even insist that the file be sent to them by the company that makes the game.

I would love to have a large-format game map like the ones pictured in this thread, but it is so frustrating that no one will print it for me.  Is there something I am missing here?

Yes, I tend to be too honest for my own good.  To make matters worse, I tend to look guilty too, even when I am not, which makes people suspicious and ask more questions.  Still trying to find a way to make that work for me in life.  So far, it has just gotten me in trouble.

Good idea.  I will just send a disk in and try to avoid any chatty interaction.  Will let you know how it goes.  I am drooling over those pictures.  My 10 year-old son and his buddies are used to cramming a zillion figures onto the tiny spaces in the 1st edition 1942 map, and they will go nuts if we can get one of these big maps.  Thank you IL for making these maps available and for your advice!

Hey, these days I would be willing to do anything to get a 10 year old into board games and away from the Play Station… Good on you buddy for doing that! I feel board games are a lost past time… I’m doing the best I can to keep my 4 year old into it. He’s got almost as many games as I do! (Almost…  :-D)

I contacted AAA Flag and Banner about a week ago and my order is underway.  Hope to have the big map in another week or so, and will post a picture when we have it.

@Variable: Yes, my 10 year-old (this map is for his 11th birthday) is completely hooked on boardgames, and gets his friends into them too.  I figure this was a good investment on my part, since I will always have someone to play against. :mrgreen:

You’re doing the right thing with your 4 year-old.  He’ll have fond memories as far back as he can remember spending time with his dad and playing games.  He’ll probably be ready for A&A at about 8, as long as you don’t play super competitively.  Other young adult/adult games that hit our table a lot are HeroQuest and Battle Cry.
