Edit was to change retreat from Paris to HolBel instead of W.Germ. The hardest thing was mentally getting back into the game. There were a lot of possible offensive and defensive things to consider. Opportunities for the Brits. But in the end, there were only so many things I could do, and it didn’t take as long as expected. Because my builds and the ground troops that had been in combat were already set. Future turns will be timely. This game will play out very different than any other BM game of mine.

Retreat and defense of HolBel makes a great deal of sense; good move. Not doing so, gives the UK a free 3 ipcs. I agree that the course of this game will be different–perhaps very different–than any I ever played before. The UK and Italian Round 1 turns, in particular, should be interesting.

Great first round dice for me defending against China and UK, including snake eyes. But then my hitting dried up. Small battles can have extreme results. In G1, I held back an inf from Yugo battle and should have NCM it to Italy instead of WGer to use against S. Fra. Now have to use a tank, plus send Hol tanks to Norm. Not going to have punch or units to push Russia back.

I am not going to complain about the first round dice, including the 1/36 chance of two German subs rolling snake eyes. Overall, the Allies were quite fortunate. For security reasons, I cannot comment on the rest of your message before G-2 is complete.

It was a tough decision on who should take Paris. Waiting for Germany would allow France to move its troops and build up to 6 troops, requiring more German inf & art to go in the wrong direction. But with Italy taking it, Germ loses the windfall and the permanent 4 points and can’t build in Paris for counterattacks against invasions in Norm. A no win choice.

I rolled great in Norm, but you rolled a perfect 3 for 3, so I had to take a plane to save a tank to take Norm. Good thing that I didn’t try to get by with just 2 tanks. Hadn’t lost a plane in T1, while UK now has no fleet in the Atlantic. But G40 is decided by status of Russia. Russia starts with good income and has a big Siberian army that can come west. Plus convoy income that is spread around and hard to eliminate. If Germ stalls in Russia, the other Allies can concentrate on holding off Italy and Japan and threatening W. Europe. Even if Japan does well, like in our first game, almost all Axis wins are in Europe.
