Axis and Allies: Cold War Variant
-
Greetings! I created a Cold War scenario for Axis and Allies Global 1940 (2nd edition). It was inspired by the following setup:
After playing it with friends and deciding we didn’t like some of the mechanisms of the game/the power balance, I created my own version which you can find below.
AXIS AND ALLIES: COLD WAR
Countries:
NATO: USA, England, France, Spain, Australia, Canada, Republic of China/Japan/Korea, Italy
COMMUNIST COUNTRIES AND ALLIES: USSR, China, Middle Eastern CountriesDue to the number of countries, you will need to use forces/pieces from other games or come up with a system that works for you. Here is what pieces my friends and I used, as well as the turn order for this game:
- USA (USA pieces 1940)
- Soviet Union (Soviet Union pieces 1940)
- England (UK pieces 1940)
- China (Japan pieces 1940)
- France (France pieces 1940)
- Republic of China/Japan/Korea (China pieces 1940)
- Australia (ANZAC pieces 1940)
- Spain (Germany pieces 1984 First Edition)
- Middle Eastern Countries (Germany pieces 1940)
- Canada (Japan pieces 1984 First Edition)
- Italy (Italy pieces 1940)
THE SITUATION:
All of NATO is at war with China and the Middle Eastern Countries. The Soviet Union starts at war with no one, but may declare war on NATO at any time. The USA may not declare war on the Soviet Union. There will be a state of war between the USA and the Soviet Union only if the Soviet Union declares war on NATO. Other NATO countries may choose to declare war on the Soviet Union, but that will not bring the rest of NATO into war. The Soviet Union cannot declare war on individual NATO countries.HOW THE WAR IS WON:
NATO wins by holding Moscow, Iraq, and Shanghai for a complete round of play. The Communist Countries win by holding 6 of the following cities for a complete round of play: Washington, Ottawa, Paris, Rome, London, Tokyo, Sydney, Calcutta, Manila, Honolulu, San Francisco.SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS:
- Denmark, Norway, Sweden, and Finland are currently under English and French protection. Any member of NATO may move freely through these countries. However, no NATO power (including England and France) may claim these territories or collect IPCs for them. However, a communist country may conquer the territories and collect their IPCs.
- Sumatra, Java, Celebes, and Dutch New Guinea are currently under English protection. Any member of NATO may move freely through these territories. However, no NATO power (including England) may claim these territories or collect IPCs for them. However, a communist country may conquer the territories and collect their IPCs.
- Republic of China/Korea/Japan may only purchase infantry, artillery, and fighters. However, they may place their units on any of their territories, and will not surrender their IPCs if they lose their territories. All Chinese territories conquered by NATO will become a part of ROC/K/J.

@jostermann Wow, this is really good. However, I think there was a lot of minutiae to it that this game does not cover which is exactly why I’m working on creating a whole new version of Axis and Allies. Axis and Allies: 1955. I’m assembling a team to help make it and would love if you joined
