Good game! As I recall, you sank an Allied fleet in the east Med because I failed to build an airbase there to protect it. That really hurt me. I also didn’t contend with the Japanese in the Pacific very well.
You outplayed me for sure, and I look forward to our rematch which will count for the 2nd Playoff. I find myself playing too many games at once right now, and it is hard to exert the time and energy needed to each one and give the attention that they deserve. I have a 10 day vacation coming up soon, and I would also like to finish one or 2 of my other games so I can give focused attention to our playoff game. When I am ready, I will post the beginning of our playoff game with me as Axis. I anticipate it will be late May. I will also PM you when I set up the game.
@OwenToo Fantastic game Owen!! You played very well. Very tenacious. Once Germany is making 90+ its pretty difficult to handle as the allies. Especially with Japan going strong. I screwed up giving that middle east factory to the US. Lesson learned (not really I did it again in one of my other games) Yeah take your time and finish up some games. Haven’t seen this attack against a Gibraltar stack too often, I think only once when I didn’t kill some subs which sunk the sz91 cruiser. Guess the bombers bought G1 make it more viable.
Wonder if I should have put a plane on Algeria to make the Italian attack less viable?
I think the bomber purchase makes it harder for UK to cover all the possibilities.
It’s hard to ignore the strategic bombing threat to the UK, so there’s a need to have some fighters there.
A fighter in Algeria would have meant Italy would need to more fully commit to that attack and not attack the French ships - which would then be available to reinforce the Gibraltar fleet and maybe discourage a German attack.
The troops landing in Southern France could have reinforced Algeria instead, but then the French ships would go neutral.
It’s tricky, especially with the sucessful U-boat attack on the Canadian ships, the UK is stretched thin. Not sure what a better alternative is to stacking Gibraltar though, attacking the main Italian fleet is dicey, and retreating to the UK and Red Sea gives Italy a lot of offensive options.
The attack isn’t without downsides for Germany though, it risks losing a lot of planes and some of those remaining are out of position for G3 moves into Russia.

@GeneralDisarray I thought the game was over after 3 AAA gun hits and then only 9 hits by the entire attack. This is interesting though, losing three planes is rough but a few extra land units survived.
I don’t know how many players play games in real-time. I believe most players here do either Play by Forum or Play by Email. I don’t think players hang out in a lobby looking for games either. If people want to play in real-time, they would probably arrange a time to meet with another player.
Some do but more on weekends, as you might expect. Most online players like revised for some reason.
