6/8 Send 6 hits north, and 8 hits south. 2 subs each. 1 sub is surplus to requirement and can attack the Canadian Destroyer.
As time wears on and players look for better ways to weaken germany, and with the bid, this setup will draw scrambles. Expect to lose planes unless you bring in the Battleship, and if you do, expect to lose that. Building an airbase to defend it is extra, and only 1 Tac is required to land away from Western Germany (and it often dies). If that tac does land, put the AAA guns with it, a smart UK player will destroy it.
A good G1 will usually require the GER player to abandon his attack on SZ 111. Otherwise, he is spread too thin to make the G1 amount to a net gain of distance/time.
I’ve tried other openers that ignore one of these two attacks and uses the extra planes to help in France, add multiple battles, change the opener etc. These are way less optimal than the standard opener.
Leaving UK with any ships from either of those two fleets (it will be a BB) affects the game quite a bit. KGF can start earlier and US can bring more.
The optimal opener therefore is probably 7+9(BB) if they bid on scotland, and you sacrifice the German BB. Killing both fleets is necessary to ensure a firm playout, and the traditional 6/8 opener begs for a double scramble.
In Game 191, that double scramble cost Germany all the subs, 2 extra tacs and 3 fighters which is a 1:1 trade (5 allied fighters for 5 German planes).
