I always put the colonial garrison in India and immediately start bolstering the defending land forces. Otherwise, the Japanese can use the J1 or J2 India crush and grab the VC quickly

You could try reducing transports’ defense value.  If a transport rolls a 1, roll again and only hit on a 3 or less.  This would effectively halve their defensive capability.

You could also try using the transport rules from the new Anniversary game (see pages 13-16, 18-19, 21 and 31).  This is a bit more radical approach, and may require tweaking the setup a bit to counter the reduction in combat strength of some fleets.

I strongly suggest don’t bid if you are 4 or 5 players and playing face to face. Those games are complex to play and allies struggle to coordinate. Any bid could easily unbalance the game and favor the Axis. Even 1 ipc to Japan can mean 1 IC, 2 trannies in Japan 1, a very important change.

I play one FtF game with another 3 guys each week and believe me, I know what I’m saying. Last time, without any bid, Axis bought 1 bb and 1 ac for Mediterranean sea  :-o and they gave us the Allies the fight of our lives mainly because of bad coordination

That depends on how dull the knife is, though.  My husband’s mother has knives so dull I use her spoons to cut my food.  Lord knows the knife is completely useless!

'cause in RISK you can do the move you are talking about, but not in A&A…

first you have combat move
then you have conduct combat
