• can you please guide me to this version

  • @dawgoneit 2614752

  • @dawgoneit and is this the newest one?

  • @dawgoneit

The latest version is always here:
    https://github.com/triplea-game/triplea/releases

As you can see 2.7.14900 is the latest (currently).
    https://github.com/triplea-game/triplea/releases/tag/2.7.14900

I wonder why you would want the old and outdated 2.6.14752, but it is here:

@Panther my experience is that I can’t look at old games with the newer versions.

What is a annoying is that these old versions immediately upon start complain that they are outdated.

Would you have some advice how to look at games from 2019, for example, with version 1.9 without problems? Maybe I should go offline, before starting an old version of TripleA.

  • @Panther I have like 6 versions on my computer rite now. I would like to use 1 but every person has a different version they’re playing. depending who i’m playing i have to switch. if i play with a newer one the person i’m playing with an older one can’t load the newer one. a lot of people don’t want to switch. That’s why i need older versions.

its like we need a reset so we can get everyone on the same version.

  • @dawgoneit with what you just showed me i;m going to have 2 more. i just hope i don’t have a player with a different version than these 7 to want to play. Lol

Most forum games I see on 2.6.?? with a lot of variance in the ?? part of the version number. Basically every small thing that the Triple A team works on gets recorded and stored as a version number, which is why there are so many.

Several forum players use builds before 2.6.14534 as one of the updates after this created a bug with the battle calculator. The reason to use 2.6 is that at the end of your turn when using Play By Forum if you want to Post Savegame & Turn Summary, that process works, whereas it does not with any of the 2.5 versions.

However 2.5 is the only way to play Online Lobby as far as I know, so I have one of each installed.

@dawgoneit you should be able to play any 2.6 game with any of the 2.6 versions, your version does not need to match the other person’s exactly.

    Best,
    Stu

  • Before answering your individual postings I just want to say:

I am neither a TripleA developer nor a software coder. Just in case someone expects any resulting changes ;-)

For years if not at least a decade I have always recommended to everyone to go with the latest version, while explaining that and how older versions can be preserved. If people are unwilling to update one has to live with the consequences. These are incompatible games, bugs that may have already been fixed, inability to post to forum etc… You all know that from your own experience.

However installing different versions side by side has always been a workaround. So you all are handling this perfectly.

You are correct - rarely there are changes that affect savegame-compatibility. This is always indicated in the release notes when it occurs. You need the respective legacy version then.

What is a annoying is that these old versions immediately upon start complain that they are outdated.

Well… they are. TripleA doesn’t behave different from many other software that is outdated in this hinsight. Software development usually is an ongoing process.

Would you have some advice how to look at games from 2019, for example, with version 1.9 without problems? Maybe I should go offline, before starting an old version of TripleA.

Not sure what exactly you experience, as I am always going exclusively with the latest available version. Please post a screenshot. In case you open an 1.9 compatible savegame with 1.9 you should be able to see it. Your online-status is irrelevant, then.

Understood. I feel for you. However you won’t need exactly the same subversion.
It’s all about savegame compatibility, while breaking compatibility rarely occurs.

its like we need a reset so we can get everyone on the same version.

That would be most preferable. But you can’t force people to do so. So unfortunately we have to live with the consequences.

Exactly. Every small change or adjustment leads to a new pre-release. But only a very, very small fraction is savegame-compatibility breaking.

Meanwhile we are at 2.7xxxxx. A current problem is that we have been waiting for a new “stable” release for years. But it doesn’t look like this will occur anytime soon. So pre-releases are all we can get right now. Being “stable” is just a tag, a timestamp in development history, however. Pre-releases usually are not “unstable”.
