G40 Waffen-SS Panzer Army
-
For use with Axis & Allies Global 1940 and Axis & Allies Global 1940 House Rules Expansion, we are about to start play testing the formation of a German Waffen-SS Panzer Army.
This rule will initially be an Optional Rule.
The rule includes a new unit: Waffen-SS Panzer General Unit.
We start the final play testing for this rule during the Axis & Allies G40 Expansion Tournament from the 25th to 27th October 2024.
We have attached the rules here, based on the initial 4 play testing games.
We’ll announce any changes on this thread.

Will it actually only be a corps sized formation that happens to have the word “army” attatched to it like the real Waffen-SS Panzer Army?
Guess we’ll never know whether the Waffen-SS would have formed whole armies if Germany had more resources. Could be devastating for whatever enemy was unfortunate enough to encounter them.

We have attached the rules to the first post in this thread, with some revised information.

Nice.

Nice ! I’ll add it to triplea soon

Finished reading the rules.
Crazy powerful, but crazy expensive. I guess like most things in Axis and Allies…
The Heer’s not gonna be happy about this expansion.

1st Waffen-SS Panzer Army In Action:
During one of our latest games, we play tested the 1st Waffen-SS Panzer Army.
As the pictures from the Eastern Front in Early 1944 below show, the 1st Waffen-SS Panzer Army is completely surrounded by Soviet forces.
During the first massive Soviet counter offensive in Late 1943 the Soviets attacked the 1st Waffen-SS Panzer Army which was supported by only a few various German combat units.
Anyway - the Soviet attack against the 1st Waffen-SS Panzer Army was a disaster and the Soviets had to break of their counter attack. When the Soviet offensive was launched in Early 1944 the Russian forces encircled the 1st Waffen-SS Panzer Army instead of attacking it.
In this game we did not use the Waffen-SS Panzer Army Marker or Board since they were not yet fabricated - we used the combat units instead as these pictures show.

Nice :) They’re Heavy Hitters, especially on defense. 8 rolls as opposed to 10 for the Wehrmacht Pnzr Army. 33 bucks and 31 for the Waffen Army.
They hit at 4 and 5 too. Hit points probably biggest drawback. 4 instead of 6.
This what I have for triplrea. It’s a modified image of Victory’s 1st Panzer :) Someone probably make a better one :)
Anyway I dig it :) Haven’t tried a game yet. Probably will soon :)

The 1st Waffen-SS Panzer Army is a Battle Formation that Germany cannot afford to lose in combat.
Once the 1st Waffen-SS Panzer Army is on the game board, it must be “protected” and “maintained” with multiple units (Infantry, Panzer Grenadiers etc.).
This means, that the German player has the most powerful Army on the game board - but it comes at a high cost in both time and IPC.
The 1st Waffen-SS Panzer Army should not operate on its own - it should always be supported by numerous units (cannonfodder).
The 1st Waffen-SS Panzer Army is best suited when used in a defensive role.

Sure hope a land connection is reestablished. They look like they’re in a good position to do some serious damage.

@The-Captain said in G40 Waffen-SS Panzer Army:
is best suited when used in a defensive role.
that was my initial thought as well
