I just finished watching the final episode of The West Wing on my Tivo.
I have to say, that the show enjoyed one hell of a run. Although it waned off after Aaron Sorkin left a few years ago, The West Wing was the best show on TV for a long time.
The West Wing showed politics and politicians in a different light than other television shows. Politicians, although they had their bad apples, were patriots in the highest manner. They and their staff served the United States of America not for power or money, but simply to serve the United States of America.
Instead of lowering the show to the intellectual level of the lowest common denominator, Aaron Sorkin and company did their best to raise it. Instead of maintaining their audience through action, shock, and impropriety, Sorkin used dialogue, intrigue, and class. He showed that being learned, articulate, and astute are not qualities of arrogance but qualities that we all should strive for.
I would like to take this moment to applaud the creators of this wonderful show, and beg for a spin off.
