Austrian Strategies

This is the most axis and alies game to date. I find even with capable players a 50 50 chance of victory if we play with tr.

Central powers stat.

Take out the royal navel first. Use subs in Atlantic to take out canadian fleet Germany should build 3bb 1st turn. Cp go straight for Russia. Put enough troops in border territories between enemy powers to bog down allies. After Russia falls, head straight for France. By that time even with America, Germany will be too powerful.

Allies

Take out the Ottos. France and britian go as offensive as possible if you see germ going for Russia. Help out Italy as much as you can. If it’s all out France, go defensive obviously in territories with germ. But with the rest, go offensive. Never go defensive too long. Make germ go defensive as soon as possible.

That’s my two cents.

From a simple math min/max perspective which some are intersested in, a naval strat is extremly unwise. Simple plus/minus math will tell you you need to add appr. 81 IPC worth of naval as CP in total accross the board (using the starting naval as ref) to even break even which means if you wanna “controll” something you will need to add more than the competition.
As CP you cant ever get into a building race with the allies as your starting income is so much less, but rather you need to as fast as possible close the incomecap.

Consider sz17. (I will assume the ottoman and russian navy cancel each out). Allies can after turn1 have 2 BS (France+Italy)+3Cruisers(UK+Italy+France which means AH wont be able to break even, even if the go all out navy. After turn2 the allies will have additional 1BS+Crusie (UK) in the zone and again AH wont be able to break even, even if they spent all during 2 turns. After this france plus Italy can with great ease together spend equal to AH for each turn.
So I have to ask how in hell are AH suppose to get controll over sz17?=)

I suppose you can counter and say “the allies dont counter my moves in my games” but then what is the point of argue the value of strats. I can  ask what do you think about my “attack-AH-first-as-Italy strat”, assuming AH dont defend their borders?=)

France:
The powerful French Navy MUST help clear the Atlantic for safe shipping to the continent.
Then, a French reinforcement of Albania and/or Egypt is a good tactic.
France needs Infantry buys for several rounds before advancing on the Germans, in my opinion.

All that Russia, France and Italy have to buy in the first 4 Rounds is Infantry.

They dont have to attack (except for Sewastopol -> Mesopotamia R1) they just need to hold the ground and reinforce contested tts.

That will give the UK enough time for their Balfour Declaration which will increase significant new forces (US) to tip the scale.

Hypothetical question: If the attack resolution rules for 1914 were the same as the other A&A games, which current first moves would you change and why…for example, I would change my opening moves by AH to build up forces to attack Italy first and just build up a force in Galicia rather than attack Venice and Poland…I would still have to attack Serbia, but I would hold off on Albania…

I think I like that.  It’s simple, and it doesn’t involve a special rule to give Switzerland a bigger army than its IPC value would indicate.  But it might have to be two turns, or maybe instantaneous, to be a real deterrent.  I guess that would have to be tested.

What do you think about possibly pulling the two German subs back to SZ 4?  First, they wouldn’t have to dodge 2 mine rolls (and Germany has enough to kill Britain’s home fleet anyway). Second, you’re set up to make a joint attack on SZ 8 turn two if Britain should try to drop a fleet. A G1 build of a BB in SZ would help (a battleship could likely survive 2a mine rolls on its way to SZ 8).

I haven’t tried this yet, but it might help a Paris or Bust strategy (preventing British reinforcements to France).

France, as I rather screamed. You must- I cannot emphasize this enough- MUST destroy France quickly. The Pincer, and Germany as a whole, is built for speed. Allow the Allies to seize the initiative, and you may as well surrender already.

I suppose you could send all troops to Silesia if you wanted, but remember that Poland must be secured to be able to place all focus on the Western Front. It doesn’t particularly matter where the troops go, just so long as the Russian can’t break through.
And I am not willing to sacrifice any naval power from the grand assault on the Royal Navy. They must be wiped out and fast to keep reinforcements from reaching France. Germany cannot outproduce both Britain and France.
