  • @JWW:

    On the chess site I play at they track “blunders”, bad moves you make etc….I have you at one blunder here, your early usa bmb afr landing spot and I have my blunders at the late JPN IC & perhaps ITA navy purchase and perhaps German lack of aggression early? If this analysis is accurate it’s a 3-1 blunder in your favor, which in the absence of crazy dice puts me at a disadvantage. I don’t know how you see the blunders we made? I might add the Russian navy purchase on your side too. maybe it’s 3 -2. maybe

    Always enjoy thoughtful analysis, especially chess analogies.  My bomber landings in Africa were absolutely a blunder (oversight) as I didn’t see 35-34-Sud-Cng.  As far as “conservative” German play, as you say, that is a big reason this is taking me a lot of rounds to win.  So I think it misleading to brag that you beat me faster than I beat you.

    Russian navy was definitely not a blunder.  You may not realize it, but the carrier allowed me to put 2 russian fighters on it which allowed me to reinforce Poland with extra UK fighters, which was just enough to make it a bad idea for you to attack it.  Only Russia can build in Z5 (of the Allies), and putting the destroyer there was, again, just enough to make it a bad idea for you to attack it.  Also, did I really need a couple extra men or a tank for Russia?  I don’t think so.

    You evoked my response of “luck” in the first game, because you were bragging about how you beat me faster than I’m beating you.  Also because you got a lot of mileage out of beating me once.  If you wouldn’t keep posting about how you beat me once in league play, you wouldn’t have to listen to the excuses.  :roll:  Do you want me to ascribe the first loss to something other than luck?  How about over-confidence from having not lost a game in nearly a year?  :-)

    Might I point out that you won the nearly meaningless game, but the big round 3 tournament game is mine?  So when we’re both bringing our “A” game……  :wink:

    Time to keep this game rushing towards its inevitable conclusion!  :-D

    The 2’s and the AA fire will be included in my statistics….  Notice which stats you refer to when determining luck.  Not the offense, but the defense.  So you’re agreeing with me about defending AA fire and 2’s being a key indicator of luck.  :-)

    agreed, I turtled up pretty quick, it will of course take longer to defeat G&I.

    I thought it would have been a bad idea to attack it w/out the red ships. I think a bmb or arm would have been better but I could of course be wrong…it probably shouldn’t count as a “blunder”
    @Gamerman01:

    You evoked my response of “luck” in the first game, because you were bragging about how you beat me faster than I’m beating you.

    wasn’t bragging. it isn’t worth bragging about just a factual observation.
    @Gamerman01:

    Also because you got a lot of mileage out of beating me once.

    no idea what you are talking about???

    Do you want me to ascribe the first loss to something other than luck?  How about over-confidence from having not lost a game in nearly a year?  :-)[\quote] it doesn’t matter what you ascribe the loss to, unless of course it bothers you that much that it makes you feel better?. I won’t make reference to it again.

    no game is meaningless!!! This one isn’t over yet! And this is my A game!! Have a good thanksgiving!

    I referred, to all the dice my side threw that turn, 1’s,2’s & 3’s and the outcome being below avg. I would disagree with you about defensive two’s and aa fire being a key indicator to calculating luck. A Key indicator imo would be O & D 2’s and 3". probably the most often dice thrown. but it is an argument we can discuss later… need to carve the bird soon. speak later. have a good day!

  • Over the past hour or so that I’ve been working on my Russian turn, I again realized that this is a very good game.  I am NOT “coasting”, because one is not coasting who spends an hour on a turn.  While I am supremely confident of the result, it will not be without many hours of intense thinking (I love this game - the strategy and the puzzles and the guessing and the dice and the little green army men……)

    I want to be clear - you’re playing a good game, and if I make it to round 4 I will have really earned it, going through Axis_roll, Dutchman, and yourself (and I have never defeated any of these players before this tourney - you’re the only one I’ve even played 1v1, and that only once).  There were no easy games for me in this tournament.  And the winner of this game gets to face the #1 seed, Yoshi, who has handled me twice before.

    A happy Thanksgiving to you, too.

    I look forward to seeing your super-power move and to responding with the 3 mid-sized allies…
    And for the record - a UK with 6 fighter planes and a bomber, 5 transports, a large army on the European mainland, and an income of 32 is not weak, no matter how many territories Japan has picked off.  :-)

    Also, until this turn Russia has not been fighting a “two-front war” as you said, for many rounds now, as measured by the number of new units purchased and sent West.  I have been turning 90% of the attention toward Japan for several rounds now, as evidenced by the taking of StC, Far, and 5 Chinese territories as of R16.  :-)  It looks like you are threatening one last pincer on the Bear with Germany and Japan, so you are now turning it into a 2-front war for them, but it hasn’t been a 2-front war for Russia for quite a few rounds now.

    ???

    Seriously?  :lol:
    JWW, you have posted about your win over me in league play on at least 3 different threads, and now you’re bringing it up again during our tournament game.  That’s exercising your bragging rights quite a bit for one game!  And hasn’t anyone ever told you that “just making factual observations” is often bragging?  Depends on which facts you’re observing!

    The Pittsburgh Steelers have won more Super Bowls than any other team in the NFL.
    The St. Louis Cardinals are the World Series Champs, and defeated the Philadelphia Phillies, the Milwaukee Brewers, and the Texas Rangers in the 2011 post-season.

    Etc.
    Most people would call this bragging, considering that I am a life-long Steelers and Cardinals fan.  But all I have done is to state some indisputable facts.
    Also, the frequency with which you make “factual observations” may constitute “bragging”.  If I state these facts about my favorite teams to you often, that would be bragging.
    Oh, JWW, you are quite a trip.  :-)
