Haha the man cave has been taken over by enemy forces! Uh oh.

Are you painting the wooden decks straight onto the primer, or is that a base coat of light gray that’s on top of the primer, and then the wooden decks?

  • '21 '18 '17 '15

Yes, the mancave is enemy occupied  :-o
Yes, painting the wooden deck over the base gray, going to try something a little different this time and see what i come up with, but it may be a while till i seek out the enemy force

  • '21 '18 '17 '15

So i ventured in to the mancave today, made some noise and moved stuff around, still not game to sit down for long, set up the 1942 2nd edition to see what it looks like, first time i opened the box  :-D Gee its small….
There are lots of threads here about specialized war rooms, well i dont have that, it is supposed to be a games room/ mancave when not ocuppied by an enemy force. Did i mention that i hate snakes…
A few pics of my room

So i have too set up my games on the slot car track, i actualy laid out the track so i can play in the middle.

  • '21 '18 '17 '15

Did i mention that i love planes  :-D

My other hobby is remote control planes and yes i do use the slot cars as well, good when the boys come in to play

  • '18 '17 '16 '15 Customizer

Wow DM, that is a nice collection of planes. You probably have a lot of land to fly those planes, I bet?

Nice track and car selection, as well. :-)

  • '21 '18 '17 '15

Thanks John, that is only about half the cars in the pic.
My favorite plane used to be the Corsair until i misjudged the distance between me and a tree, damn thing jumped into my flight path. I will get around to rebuilding it sometime….

My new favorite is one that i built from scratch after downloading the plans, is a bit rough for my first try but is so satisfying to see something that you built take flight….

  • '18 '17 '16 '15 Customizer

Wow, you built that? That is impressive.

    How did it fly?

    Did it fly smooth?

I remember when my family was struggling, when I was a child, and Dad bought us a remote controlled plane in the 1970’s. We took it out the first day, and he hit a tree with it.

We were so upset, because it was a lot of money back then, and I no it took several pay checks to buy that plane. that was the only time my family ever owned one.

I told myself, if I ever buy one, I would have to join a group of experts to teach me how to fly one.

That is a cool hobby your into. thanks for sharing! :-D

My first flight wasn’t real good, the plans said it was ok to just use elevons( a mixture of ailerons and elevator all in one) but i found i didn’t have much control. The battery gave out without warning and i landed in a tree, luckily i only broke one of the tail rudders and cracked the wing. Bit of glue and some ailerons and it flies really well. Short video here if you want to see.

  • Wow - you have some man hours tied up in all those planes! Good luck catching the snake.

Hey man, that is still awesome. Nice video! :-D

No sign of the snake, but i have moved my workstation out for the time being. Have been busy trying to get a few things done, i have 3 different approaches to these current works. Some good some not so good, will try again with some. First up, i painted these a dark grey then dry brushed a lighter grey

  • '21 '18 '17 '15

Next, these ones just the normal paint job then gave them a brown wash.

  • '21 '18 '17 '15

Then we have these with a black wash.

  • '21 '18 '17 '15

Now the carriers, i tried painting a few and also tried the sticker approach, not happy with any of the results actually so, will go back over these at a later date.

  • '21 '18 '17 '15

Lots of work in the background to catch up on as well, of all the different styles i tried, possibly i like the darker colour then dry brush with a lighter colour approach. Of course i could be a little lighter on with my shade work, think i was a little heavy handed with that. All in the course of learning the art, you’re never too old to learn and if you learn something new everyday then you’re day is not wasted… :-)  Growing old is compulsory, growing up is optional.  :-D

Awesome job on these DM! After my I get my Luftwaffe done, my German Navy, is next. It will be my first attempt on any ships. I hope I do as good of job as you did.

    Awesome quote, but true.

    Cheers!

Fantastic!  Those are incredible. I love the battleships with all the detail.

Those R/C planes look fantastic too.  That’s a very difficult hobby. I crashed so many planes I had to go back to models.  Luckily mine were small planes that didn’t cost very much although there was not much to repairing them either.  When they crashed the whole plane except the engine needed replaced.

But I didn’t learn my lesson of expensive hobbies since I started reef aquariums 10 years ago and became a coral farmer, hehe.

Cyanight, how big is your biggest tank, or is it one monstrous tank?
