Thanks guys. It really means a lot.

JWO - yea, I like to single out the capital ships.  Did the same thing with the King George for UK

I added 3 carriers to the IJN and USN.  I felt having only 8 was limiting to the game, lol.

So now each side has 11, probably will make more but I think this is sufficient for now.

Shinano(Grey, the actual carrier the sculpt is made for.), Ryujo(small) and Shokaku(wood).

    Independence(22), Casablanca(19) and Hancock(55).

Those Japanese carriers look so crisp! I like the slight sheen that they give off.

Cyanight, that is some fantastic work there, buddy! :-D

  • love these! so professional looking! I had a pacific game were my opponent did a complete naval strategy and blockade with his IJN forces! he must of had like 10 carriers on the board! wipped out my complete painted stock and had too use chips which does not look good for ships!

    Thanks a lot guys!

That’s funny you mention that JWO.  Same thing happened to me in a TripleA game online but made me think maybe 8 CV’s per nation is not enough.  I’m at 11 each now but I may add others.  I wish HBG or Shapeways had other sculpts for US CV’s.  I got an Essex from Shapeways but I would love to get some more mini carriers like HBG’s Ryujo sculpt.

Cyanight, where did you get your Australian Flag decal for your carriers, and those other to roundel decals, if you don’t mind me asking? :-)

    Thanks,

    John

  • I know what you mean Cyanight, I’ve been trolling through shapeways aswell but everything carrier and ship wise seems way outta scale! I really want too find a Lexington class carrier. They just have such a distinct visual difference to the other us carrier classes. I tried to custom build one out of the OOB wasp class…. It’s alright but really would like a mould! So many carrier classes for the Japanese they look great swarming the pacific sea zones… We just need the other naval heavyweight Uncle Sam too get some carrier love too!

John I got the Australian roundels and flags from Ebay.  The guy who makes them is from England and his name is Mehusla.

Here is the link the item.  The flags are on the same decal sheet with the Australian roundels.

Exactly JWO… I bought a bunch of carriers off of Shapeways but they are too small. I tried to contact the builder to see if he could make them in 1/4000 scale or maybe 1/3500.  1/4800 is too small IMO.  I wanted to have the Ranger since its a unique mold and others like the Lexington.  Just too small.  Then if you buy from Panzershiffe they are all 1/2400 and way to big.

  • thats funny cyanight, I went too panzerichiffe too and bought some carrirers and battleships and the 1 2400 scale was way too big! but they had so many ships tho, I really wanted to buy and paint the French battle ship jean bart….luckily HBG is working on a French set that includes her.

  • '14 Customizer

The French set will be nice. Cant wait for that one either.

I did order some small cruisers from Panzershiffe this weekend. I will let you know how they compare in size.  The reason I ordered cruisers is because I hate the OOB cruisers for UK.  They are about as big as the destroyers and too small IMO.  Its difficult to see the difference between the cruisers and destroyers for UK.  So I ordered a bunch of different small cruisers hoping they will be larger than the OOB cruiser but smaller than the battleships.  I will update you guys on my research when they come in.

Cyanight, did you know this company sells Union Jack decals, the company you provided me a link for?

If so, are these small enough to go on the infantry, mechs and tanks?

    Thanks,

    John

It says online the smallest Union Jack Flag is 2mm.

Would that fit an infantry base?

    It should shouldn’t?

––John, I’ve already orderred a few sets of these “Union Jack” flag decals
as I believe they will have some A&A applications. As for Infantry bases, I don’t know. I, myself, still much prefer custom-painted national ensigns on my Infantry bases as for one thing, they are MUCH LARGER AND EASIER TO SEE (see below). In fact, they show up so well that I don’t normaly use
“Territory Control Markers” any more because they aren’t necessary and just ‘clutter-up’ the gameboard,…even on a map that’s been 150% enlarged to
    4’ x 9’.

Paul, I would love do that, but Spitfire38 is not as strong in that area as he would like to be, he says, so I told him the decals are fine. I’m just trying to see what size decal I need, since I’m not having them painted. This company is a second possibility in getting these decals, but I got to see if 2 mm is small enough or not. :-)

  • '14 Customizer

2mm is fine.  In fact 3mm would probably work too.  I have put  over 1000 little 3mm magnets into those bases and I know there is plenty room to fit a 3mm disc in the center of the base.  You could also put them on the open side of the base kinda like I did with my inf.  Mehusla’s decals are very nice and I have ordered countless decals from him without any problems.  If you order more than one set from him make sure you log into Ebay through UK Ebay.  That way you can add to cart and have only 1 shipping charge. ;)

Paul, I really love your bases and the way they are painted.  I chose the decal method because the bases I painted didn’t pass my QC, hehe.
