And attached is the XML you must use.  It is called “World War II Global 1940 Alpha 3 Future” (because it only works with TripleA 1.6 and later)

Instructions:

1. Download TripleA 1.6, and install it or whatever.

2. Download the map “World War II Global”, the latest version (should be version 2.9 as of writing this).

3. Unzip the map into a folder with the same name as the zip.  There should be no double folder. 
The directory to the games folder should look like this:```
triplea\maps\World War II Global\games

Example: C:\Users\veqryn\triplea\maps\World War II Global\games

4\. Delete the zip. (you don't need the zip because you just unzipped its contents to a folder of the same name)

5\. Download the xml file I have attached here.

6\. Copy or move the XML to the "games" folder inside the Global folder.
Example: C:\Users\veqryn\triplea\maps\World War II Global\games\ww2global40_alpha3future.xml

7\. Run TripleA 1.6, and select "World War II Global 1940 Alpha 3 Future" (should be version 3.0 as of writing this), and PLAY IT!

**NOTICE:**
Because of installing this XML, you will forever receive a "message" when you open TripleA 1.5.2.1
_IGNORE THE MESSAGE!_
Basically, this xml contains information that TripleA 1.5.2.1 does not understand (like the technologies for global alpha), and consequently TripleA 1.5.2.1 will complain that it doesn't understand this xml.

**Nothing bad is happening.  TripleA 1.5.2.1 is just telling you it can't read the xml.  Just close the message box, and ignore it.  You can keep using TripleA 1.5.2.1 for all your other games, including Global 1940 version 2.9!**

What does “invalid type code:47” mean?  I am also playing Odonis and this error is one that pops up often enough that I remember it. He switched to 1.6.1 and the errors are starting to come back. I’m assuming the problem lies with his computer.

99% this is your computer’s problem.

Assuming you aren’t trying to mess with triplea or the savegame, the issue is probably something to do with your OS or your Java or whatever zip/unzip program is default used by the OS when java requires something unzipped or zipped.

triplea, when loading a savegame, just tells java to unzip target file and deserialize it

so, odonis, could you tell me the following:

1. How old is your computer?
2. What operating system are you using?  (and is it a legal copy, fully updated?)
3. What java version are you using?
4. Have you made sure to delete all your old versions of java?  (installing a new version of java does not delete the old ones automatically)
5. Do you have any trouble with anything else related to your computer?
6. Do you get these errors on anyone else’s computer’s, or just this one single computer?

i have asked for, and yet to receive, a nice high quality color scan of the rule book, and decent picture of the board (without units), and a copy in some form of the setup cards and anything else i need.

Okay, I am probably the only one here using Server 2008 for my personal computer (when I am done, I am going back to 7) but TripleA wont even load - like at all.  Probably does not matter to anyone, but at least on 7 I was getting it to play a round or two before dying, on 2008 it wont even start up.

In another thread the idea came up of having Triple A include a ‘Fog of War’ toggle for enabling double-blind games… It sounds like it would be a bit of work to execute, but it would definitely be a blast to play! Would you be interested in developing this? I have a ruleset you could use to help you with the programming… Let me know if this is up your alley.

Global was updated today to version 3.2
(that is the file version)

The fixes:

3.1 - 3.2

• Fixing some errors in game notes.
• Fixing some small rare graphics issues.
• Adding a mod/variant for more balanced gameplay.

3.0 - 3.1

• Created game option to force tech tokens to be removed after rolling them, regardless of success.
• Preventing British and UK_Pacific from both rolling for Warbonds. Instead only British will roll, unless their capital is taken, then UK Pacific will.
• Preventing Kamikaze Suicide Attacks from occuring all the time, now should only occur when there is a battle or an amphibious attack from that sea zone.
• Created game option that prevent unescorted transports from conducting amphibious assaults.
• Added PU sign for Okinawa.

2.9 - 3.0

• Added all technology to Global 1940.
• Allowed paratroopers to be moved in a second combat movement phase.
• Made bonus for Mech Infantry work correctly.
• Made Rockets go 4 spaces and not fly over neutrals.
• Allowed UK_Pacific to share the cost of researching technology.
• Made British share all technology with UK_Pacific.
• Allowed Convoy Blockades to roll dice (you can turn this off in game options).
• Allowed Low Luck for Strategy Bombing and Rockets to be set again.
• Stopped British air units from dying if UK_Pacific was building a factory under them.
• Forced Tactical Bombers to only be able to target airfields and harbours.
• Allowed Submarines to enter any sea zone during non-combat, but end movement if there is an enemy Destroyer present.

Make sure that both you and your opponents have it.  If your opponent does not have it, then you might end up playing by the old version….

Why is France allowed to move into the Sahara?  I’ve seen it happen thrice, and China moving into the mountains just north of India (another banned zone.)

The Sahara isn’t a territory jenn, its just a graphic.  Unless you mean moving “through” the Sahara to the other side of it.
The AI will occasionally build units in the Himalayas.  This, among many other reasons, is why I recommend not using the AI to play Global 1940.

For your next bug report, please include a savegame.

Yea, I have to save every round, it’s like an old version of Battlemap, crashin all the time!

Instance:  Allies declare war on Neutrals, any allied infantry moves into Rio De Oro (safe so far) next round, allied units can move and blitz through the Sahara.  (I have not tried this with Axis units yet.)

Sure, next time I see Frenchy walk through the Sahara like it isnt there, I’ll save it.  /shrug.  I don’t play it a lot (with TripleA) so it may take some time.

Nevermind.  I refuse to use this software for anything anymore.  It’s too restrictive, which is partially to do with the AI, I am sure.

Here are my grievances:

MAJOR Grievances:
(1) You cannot see 2/3rds of the map at a time.  I need to see All of Europe, including N. Africa, England the Med and Russia simultaniously, just like in Abattlemap.  End of story. 
*** Yes, I know you can do it, but then you cannot tell what the pieces are in any of the zones. 
(2) In relation to (1), Scaling SUCKS.  Very hard to tell what you have when zoomed, even harder to tell what your opponent has (at least you have your memory for what you purchased and moved recently!)
(3) Tactical bombers strategically bombing factories.  They may only strategically bomb Air Bases or Naval Bases. (Not going to screen shot this, anyone under the sun can test this themselves, just use England round to SBR a factory with a tactical bomber.)

MINOR Grievance:
(1)  France can violate the neutral rules with impunity.  I have done this several times.  France declares war on the True Neutrals, then blithly walks from Rio through the Desert.  France has also walked through the Pipet Marshes, but that’s a pain to set up and you have to literally make sure that infantry walks there without getting killed on the way - so it won’t ever happen in a real game.
(2)  China seems to be able to move south of Sikang / west of Yunnan over the Indian territory without ever declaring war on Neutrals (And even if they did, this is out of bounds for China.)
(3)  Three times now the game has failed to give America the NO for Alaska after liberating the Aluetian islands.  This is more a nuissance, you can edit the map to fix this, but still, annoying!

I tested this with 1.6 and it did not let me move from FWA to Rio de Oro.  It also did not let tactical bombers SBR industrial complexes.

Are you still using 1.5.2.1?
