Sir, you are color blind :-D
But it is a useful map nevertheless, thanks!
If I have a MIC that has say 8 hits of damage and then gets taken by the opposition and is downgraded to a mIC, does the damage stay at 8 or does it go down to the max of a mIC of 6 hits of damage?
Goes down to 6
@HerbNBrew:
Q1: Can a fighter that participated in combat, land on a newly built carrier that was built in a hostile sea zone?
Q2: Anzac moves a single transport and man into an Anzac island seazone with a Jap sub and American destroyer. The US just declared war at the end of round 3 collect income phase, which is why the sea zone is shared. Can the Anzac transport use the American DD as cover to unload?
Cheers
A1: Yes.
A2: Not sure which turn order (version) you’re playing, but no, ANZAC must have their own surface warship to cover. You can never use Ally’s units on your turn (except landing on their carriers)
I’m like 95% sure on these, so you may want to wait for Krieg to confirm or clarify because I’m not 100%. Great questions!
Q3: Do only subs remove 2 IPC per convoy zone? I’ve heard mention cruisers also have this ability. Is this Alpha Official?
Q4: Does a sub remove 2 IPC convoy per sub or per territory? Ex: One German sub in Nova Scotia convoys for 2 or 3 IPC?
Q5: Does anyone play with the optional interdiction rules for Germany to convoy for 3 IPC? For me, its almost never done, much like kamikazes.
A1: Yes.
That’s dirty. If your opponent leaves lightly or unprotected German transports in Sz 113 for example, the UK can fly two or more fighters to take out the transports and land on a carrier in Sz 110 where the German navy is stationed. Something to watch out for, like a can opener, every turn.

Alpha +2 of course. If a transport requires an escort to do an amphibious assault when a sub is present, is the same true in non-combat or unloading into a friendly territory?

No, it’s definitely only required for combat. Krieg weighed in on that recently.

Only subs. Optional rule that German subs do 3 IPC’s. Cruisers do NOT have this ability. Probably someone’s idea to make cruisers more attractive, but is not official at all.
Q4: Does a sub remove 2 IPC convoy per sub or per territory? Ex: One German sub in Nova Scotia convoys for 2 or 3 IPC?
Per sub so it’s only 2 IPC’s there in Nova Scotia, but watch out. If the territories are owned by different powers, they EACH get raided on their respective turns, so a sub could POTENTIALLY do more than 2 IPC’s per game round.
Q5: Does anyone play with the optional interdiction rules for Germany to convoy for 3 IPC? For me, its almost never done, much like kamikazes.
Kamikazes are not an optional rule. I don’t know of anyone playing 3 IPC’s, but in my opinion the Allies are heavily favored in Alpha2 still, so this optional rule would be one way to start balancing things out a bit.
@Cmdr:
Exactly which island were you going to put a complex on in Europe?
West Indies = 1 IPC, invalid
Malta = 0 IPC, invalid
Cyprus = 0 IPC, invalid
Sicily = 0 IPC, invalid
Iceland = 0 IPC, invalid
Ireland = 0 IPC, invalid
Madagascar = 1 IPC, invalidDid I miss any?
:-) Good post.
Greenland?
Crete? :roll:
And I was thinking a few made it to China safely, but you guys are probably right about no survivors. I can’t remember for sure.
Many of them lived to tell the tale. I believe only one plane’s crew was completely unaccounted for. A portion fell into the hands of the Japanese and were POW’s for the better part of the war, I think. One crew was interned by the USSR. The majority bailed out or crash landed and found their way to the Chinese rebels they were trying to rendevous with, Doolittle included.
It’s a horrible HORRIBLE movie, and innaccurate in many ways, but the Michael Bay Pearl Harbor film did sort of accurately depict some of what went down with the Raid.
@Cmdr:
Wonder if there is a way we could incorporate it into the game somehow…maybe leaving them on the carriers, unable to take off until launched and then they have to be lost after the SBR or something…
The B-25s used in the raid required EXTENSIVE modification. It was a one off, one way, do or die mission and doesn’t really reflect how the planes were used in any typical role. They needed to be stripped of all defensive weaponry and anything not bolted down was tossed just to get the planes airborne before the end of the flight deck. In order to appear that they weren’t defenseless they installed mock gun barrels in the turrets.
So, if you REALLY wanted to include it, it would probably be best to treat it similar to Kamikaze tokens. The US gets 2 B25 tokens and you can one way them against Tokyo if Japan manages to bloody the US’s nose or summat. I don’t think there’s much reason to. It was pretty much only for propaganda and had minimal impact on the war other than morale.
With the new Alpha 2 rules , can you kamakaze attack transports at all if there are no warships in the amphibious assault.
I do not believe so, although I do not have a page reference for you. I would like to ask along with this question, if kamikaze’s cannot hit lone transports, why is this rule present? Why not call it an autokill?
Hi,
I’m Andi from Bavaria and new to A&A and this Board. Most of my Newbie-Questions could be answered by reading this great FAQ. Thank you so far!
By now, I have one more question:
Let’s say, I’m with Japan at war with Russia, but not yet with UK/ANZAC. Now I’m attacking a hostile SZ containing a Russian Ship and a UK Vessel with my i.e. Battleship. How is combat done? May I attack? Is the UK vessel involved in combat somehow?
Thanks
Andi

No.
Welcome, Andi!

Units that belong to powers that you’re not at war with are ignored. They don’t participate in the battle.
Dankeschön, Krieghund!
Just posting here, so i get notified.
Japan declares war on Russia, on Germany’s next turn they capture Moscow. What happens to the 12IPC Russia would have collected for the DOW by japan?

Kamikazes cannot kill transports since there is no honor in killing defenseless transport.

Think it’s been asked and answered, the money is paid into the coffers immediately, not at the start of their next turn. So Germany would get the 12 IPC, I think.
Wrong
Does anyone read rules anymore? This is straight from the Alpha2 rules I printed out from Larry’s site. Took me 30 seconds to find the paper and read it.
Under Soviet Union NO’s:
#4 “Collect 12 IPC’s, once, at the beginning of the turn following a declaration of war by Japan on the Soviet Union. Theme: Recognized national emergency.”
Really, no interpretation or FAQ needed. Just read the rules. No offense meant, Vir, you just happened to be the hundredth person that’s asked a question that’s VERY clearly stated in the rules and is completely unambiguous. Sometimes I think people don’t read the rulebooks anymore, they just learn how to play games from other people…. :-)
And Jenn, if you can’t answer basic questions correctly and you’re always saying “I think”, then why are you answering questions on the FAQ thread?
As I said, Gamer, it’s been answered. =p~

Confine yourself to answering the question without bloviating comments. It is infact somewhat ambiguous since Russia can’t normally collect or spend money with their capital lost.
So in the future do not reply to any of my questions.
