  • @mikawagunichi I find the battle in SZ 20 pretty frustrating. I don’t understand thematically why neither the fighter on the carrier in SZ 7 nor the fighter on the Japanese airfield can scramble to defend the 3 transports. I would not have left them in that sea zone if I’d realized there was no scramble allowed. I suppose the rule is that there has to either be an amphibious assault or already be some kind of defender in the sea zone to allow a scramble – but I don’t understand what this is representing historically or why it’s fun.

    Normally I would say the tradeoff is that the American bomber is at risk after flying such a long-distance mission, but because you neatly wiped out the transport stack, I don’t have anything that can threaten Korea.

    I feel like I am learning the hard way about the fussier details of the rules on this map, and it is pretty tempting to just say I surrender and next time I will know the rules better. Like, the reason I’m playing league games is because y’all posted saying “please play league games,” not because I know PtV well enough to be competitive.


  • @Argothair If you want to re-do your Japan turn and then have me re-do my Allied turn I am fine with that.

    For the carrier scramble, it is required to have a defending surface warship (i.e. cannot only be subs and transports).

    For the regular scramble from an airbase to a sea zone, it’s the same as OOB. The AB on Japan is not adjacent to SZ 20 so wouldn’t be able to scramble there in any case.

    And, yes, fair point about the airbase – the rules are the same, but the map changes split up the Japanese home islands, which is why the airbase is not adjacent on this map, and I missed that detail.


  • @Argothair No worries, I appreciate you giving PTV a try. If you want more context on why certain PTV rules are they they way they are Adam514 would be the person to ask. I wasn’t playing in the league yet when it was first released, but I do know in the original ruleset there were fewer restrictions on carrier scrambles and games revealed carriers were just far too powerful.
