@the-captain yea the move 2 is sweet too. Throw some cheap tanks in there with the commisar and they can respond pretty well against a JPN attack from china.
Can do well on German E Front as well but it seems thats usually more of large atrit battles. Cool unit for sure.
32 bucks the magic number if you’re not maxed. 6 Tanks and 3 Guards :)

Waffen-SS Units has been added - see the top at the first page at this thread.
-
@the-captain I know you haven’t done them yet and i may have mentioned this before ( can’t remember lol ) but Paras are stronger on defense than offense. Their advantage is offensive surprise. I wonder if the 1st rd defense of 3 should be negated to reflect this ?
What were the thoughts on this when creating it ?
Thanks

Paratrooper units (not including Waffen-SS Paratrooper units) attack at “3” and defend at “3” - during the first round of Combat - if they attack/defend alone or together with other Paratrooper units only.
From the second round of Combat, Paratrooper units fight as regular Infantry units.
Since Paratrooper units are considered to be Elite units, they are equipped as such and have in their arsenal Weapons & Equipment that give them superior Combat Capacity during the first round of Combat.
When Paratrooper units were play tested, they originally defended and attacked at “3” during each round of Combat.
But for Game Play reasons as well as Play Balance, it was necessary to change the rules as they are today.
The Paratrooper unit is a Multi-Purpose unit that should always be represented on the game board.
Note:
For the Global 1943 Expansion, we are play testing the Monte Cassino Rule.
This rule includes German Paratrooper units combined with Bunker units - defending in Italy - from Early 1944. -
British Commandos and US Marines has been added to the first post.

Elite Infantry has been added to this thread: EXPLAINED.

You are doing great!👍🏼

Example of German units - painted by hand.
Infantry units are OOB - but hand painted.
Tank units are made from pewter - and also hand painted.

@the-captain Nice :) Go in with the Air, then hit em with an Artillery Barrage and let the Panzers Roll. Infantry Mops up

Paratrooper units have been added to this explanation thread. See top of this thread.

Concerning the developement of the Paratrooper unit, we have play testet several various options.
These were the three major options:1. A Strategic Bomber unit can carry 1 Infantry unit any distance within the flight range - and drop of the Infantry unit in a territory - either during Combat Movement or Non-Combat Movement.
The Infantry unit fights under normal Infantry rules. This rule have some limitations, that makes it less attractive to launch a Paratrooper attack:
- If you have no Strategic Bomber units, you cannot launch a Paratrooper attack.
- The Strategic Bomber unit cannot be used for any other attack during this round.
- During an attack, you might lose both a Strategic Bomber unit and an Infantry unit (Paratrooper) to enemy AAA.
2. To activate a Paratrooper move, you need to have two tokens - 1 Air Transport token (cost 1 IPC) - and 1 Paratrooper token (cost 1 IPC).
- Both the Air Transport token and Paratrooper token are 1 Time Use tokens. Once they are used, they are removed from play.
- Both tokens are stored in the Capital until needed - and they can be used to transport an Infantry unit 2 spaces anywhere on the game board.
- The number of tokens are unlimited.
This rule seemed to be too complicated as the game went on, since it required tokens.
It also had the disadvantage that a massive Paratrooper attack could be launched anywhere on the game board - without any warning - as long as the attacker has the needed amount of tokens stored in the Capital.
3. A Specialized Paratrooper unit: this is the rule that we have chosen for the Axis & Allies Global 1940 House Rules Expansion.
- The Paratrooper unit is a specialized Infantry unit that can airlift itself.
- The limited production number of Paratrooper units reflects the Historical number of Paratrooper units that were activated during WWII
- With a limited number of Paratrooper units, the game is still balanced, and players must use their Paratrooper units with skill, to maximize their potential.
- The Paratrooper unit can perform missions independently from any other unit.
We have experienced that the Paratrooper unit is always represented on the game board - and is used in various scenarios - both during attack and as reinforcements across sea zones etc.
-
@the-captain yea #3 definitely the right choice.
Paratroopers are one of my favorite units :) -

Hi Captain
I know it doesn’t say it in the rules, but do you think Commandos should be able to D3 the 1st rd of battle the way Inf can for “Home Defense” ?
-
@barnee
Concerning United Kingdom Home Defense:Only Infantry and Elite Infantry units can defend at “3” during the first round of Combat.
Paratrooper units, British Commando units and other specialized Infantry units that operate under Infantry rules must defend at their normal Defense Factor during Home Defense.
The reason is, that specialized Infantry units such as Paratroopers have specialized equipment, training, weapons etc. in order to use them for Special Missions.
Also, for Game Play reasons those specialized Infantry units should not be “mixed up” with regular Infantry units.
