Pejon_88 (Allies +16) vs. Naviator (X), BM4, game 1
-
@naviator Always try and think of a worst scenario when doing battles is my advice :)
-
Well, here it is.
Losing Italian navy for a destroyer sure feels awful. I also see that going for Alaska was a mistake. Somehow I totally forgot transports next to Hawaii can reach Alaska. :( Italians fell very weak at the moment. At least now I understand meta a lot more. I feel like I am losing already. I don’t think it’s over however.

@naviator I was a bit worried since I didn’t see that sea lion coming. Rarely see people do it so I was lucky I bought safely 1st round with UK (well excluding the air base). Now that I have (most likely) survived it and Germany has committed almost 100% to conquering London, USSR will become fearsome. I still think the strategy might work, had you pressed for Egypt right away with Italy since I was unable to build anything that could stop Italy with UK. I would also recommend go for the money islands with Japan as soon as you can. You pretty much have to take them all on the turn you declare war on the Allies with Japan. they give you I think 20 IPC per turn and any reasonable Allied player will try to disrupt that income for Japan.
-
@Naviator The more you play, you’ll get to realize these “small things” such as if possible having a transport with Italy is a great threat to the Allies. You can reach anywhere in the Med.

@pejon_88 I still think USSR isn’t a threat, I could be wrong however; I think it can defend itself pretty well, I just don’t think it will be a huge force. I actually thought that purchase was 2 risky, but I saw later that it’s really hard, perhaps if you had less planes or no infantry build at all would it be an issue. Now it is pretty much safe and the carriers lost great value. Now that you mentioned pressing Egypt, I was actually confused as to what you meant. I thought Egypt was well defended and not in great danger. Now that I re-looked the history, I understand what you meant, so much that it raises more questions regarding the UK’s first turn in the Mediterranean and nearby areas. Money islands do seem important, I guess I was focused on other things more and didn’t setup taking them well enough. In the current game taking all of them seemed like a huge risk so I took Celebs only. I will look at others’ games to see generally how how others do it with minimal losses in other aspects and areas.
-
@naviator Actually, I am not sure how to press Egypt. If I put everything in Alexandria, I feel like I lose either all of it or my navy if I support it with 4 extra units and you can land up to 7 planes in Egypt so it is always very well defended. Not sure how to do it, maybe just retreat all of them to Italy as to have 3 Figs to scramble them, just to be a threat and slowly build up, but my Figs cannot attack then. Feels like a race for weaponizing which Allies probably win.

@naviator Yeah as UK first turn you need to consider Germany going for London which will show itself G2. I will paste my game versus Simon33 below so you can see how it is possible to take all island J3 for example.
You could put everything in Alexandria and land German planes for defense against a UK attack. You managed to save your navy first turn and think something similar could be done but instead of taking Crete you stack in Alexandria and/or Trans-Jordan.
The more conventional way is to save your Italian navy outside Rome and use it later or have it as a threat. Then you don’t take Egypt maybe, but if you force UK to spend everything in London it’s possible.
-
@Naviator Also, no USSR will not take Berlin, but if Germany loses initiative it’s a slippery slope. You need to be around Moscow G6 or so in order to collect on the many objectives around Caucasus etc.

@naviator Yes, we can switch sides after this one :)
What kind of questions specifically?
-
-
@pejon_88 If I go south with a lot of ships, cannot USA just take a lot of islands and sea and zone Japan out of Tokyo and essentially disable the transport of units.
-
-
@naviator You mean in our game or in general? There are ways around. USA will not position themselves in SZ6 if they risk being wiped out. The major issue for Japan is if USA positions itself in SZ6 and God forbids builds a factory in Korea, by then the end is most likely near for Japan. However, Japan starts out with a much bigger fleet than the US one. 2 battleships, 2 cruisers, 3 ACs and so on. USA only has 1 dis-positioned battleship and 1 AC, 2? cruisers. Japan starts with 21!! aircraft and it takes 10-15 turns before USA can match Japan if they spend on both the west and east coasts. A more advanced move to unable US and ANZAC to set out blockers (destroyers) is flying a couple of German bombers via China to land on the coast of south-east Asia :)
What I would recommend for land units with Japan is factories, max 2-3, along the coast. Great positions are FIC, Kwantung, Malaya. Then you don’t rely on Tokyo for land units.

@pejon_88 What if a player goes mostly Pacific with USA, like 80%+, it is much sooner than R10 that US fleet becomes bigger unless Japan doesn’t build land units. I suppose Germany needs to be aggressive, but I don’t know who would win the race, seems like a close battle.
