@ckladman Yes, the game tends to favor the allies without objectives, and the axis with. To balance, you could trying giving a bid (additional starting units) to the side that is at a disadvantage, or play with objectives but reduce the payout. (3 ipcs vs 5.)
Your favourite country! (tell why please)
-
so, pick your country!
and don’t forget, in 1939, Belgium had 600.000 soldiers!
that’s triple of the netherlands!
HAHA, in your face, Holland! -
Italy, could be the biggest threat in the game if not neutered early on, and I like underdogs
P.S: Put in Finland! They where beastly during their battles with the Ruskies
-
On one hand I like Japan because you get to play with all that navy and airforce and noboby is a real threat for awhile. :-D
On the other I like being the underdog as well like bbrett3 was saying. So Italy an Germany are the two that have it the toughest. And that is the hardest game to win and the most satisfying. :|
Russia is a bit of an underdog as well, but I have played Russia on several occassions and I always seem to hold the enemy at bay for long enough until you can finally start to buy all tanks and crush Germany.
So I would still have to stick with Japan as long as you have a really good German player. 8-) -
I like Japan, but only after J1, all that typing and dice rolling! :-D :-D
-
UK, then USSR
China is not a country, is a japanese puppet :-D
And functionetta? There is no a guy called “functionetta”. Real spanishmen have enough with only one “t” 8-) LOL

Just an FYI…USSR stands for Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, and as President Reagan predicted, it ended up on the ash heap of history. :-D

That would be Reagan riffing off George Frost Kennan again wouldn’t it?
The USSR, like all great powerful nations and empires collapsed, it happens to all great powers in history.
PS. I voted for the UK. I like being in all the theaters of conflict in some way

I was never a fan of the policy of containment…apparently either was George, as he abandoned that, for a policy of accommodation.
True all empires rise and fall, but their fall is almost always a result of the growth and control of the government over the society they govern. The Soviet Union was founded on that very precept, that government should control everything. It couldn’t survive.
President Reagan realized that there could be no accommodation with a government who’s philosophy and hold on power was diametrically opposed to every precept of a free people and said so. History proved him correct.

I like to play USA. Much money, buy a lot of stuff, man. SBR the Huns. SBR the nippons. Establish and manage a shuck. Take the big descisions. Long term planning. And then, at the end of the game, free the suppressed and liberate the submissioned people of the world, and feed the poor of course, wich makes me a real hero.
edit: Now gimme a + and quit smitin me

I was going to say Japan, but I said Germany. Japan has an awesome start… but there’s something rewarding about launching an airbourne assault on London or the look on the Russian players face when those tanks in East Poland can reach Moscow because his attack in Belorussia failed.
-
I like the U.S.S.R. simply because you have the best opportunity to punish mistakes. The first game of AA50 I played, the German player thought he didn’t have to send too much toward me (Russia), and instead built a transport and fighter first turn. I took Poland on the fourth turn… :-D
Just a little embarassing…
-
once i played a game where the russians killed the italian navy with 4 bombers and their infamous sub… funny as hell and a new low for the italians being beaten by the red bear

Definately addicted to playing Japan, even when my beautiful navy gets wiped out with some satanic dice rolls (666)

Reminds me of the In Nomine RPG that used a 3d6 system. Game was about Angels and demons.
a 111 was a divine interventation which was great for angels, bad for demons
666 was a infernal intervention, which was bad for angels, good for demons. We always played angels, but the look of terror on a players face when they rolled a 666 was pure joy.

I like the US the best because it has one of the most important roles in the game. I can’t begin to count the amount of games that have been won/lost based on how the US plays. There are so many different strats that can be done with the US that it also is the most versatile while being the most influential. It takes a master to play the US well.
-
Chose the UK - in '41 with all those IPCs you can make a great navy! Especially with new units and cheaper units.
In '42 you have more opprortunity to fight across Asia/Australia with ICs and as Captain Kiwi said play in both theatres.

I think this is my first post ever on this forum, although I have been a member for some time. So hello to all of you!
As someone who has played A&A since the first MB game in the eighties, I must say Germany. In the end it all revolves about her. If they do well, than you are on the path to victory. But one screwed up turn can really get the Axis between a rock and a hard place.
I like the importance that weighs on Germany, especially on turn one. I have spend a lot of hours conjuring up the best turn 1 for the Germans. In MB, A&A Revised and now for almost a year A&A 50. Its a great game!
