Balance, 1941, no national Objectives (reprint)

  • I’ve played a couple games of anniversary edition (reprint, never played the original) without national objectives and it seems hard for the Axis to win. Japan seems almost unstoppable but the meta of my table group seems to be going for Germany first so maybe that’s why. The Axis just can’t get past the industrial complexes in the Caucasus and in Karelia; USSR spams infantry and Germany can’t break through without infantry (3 away from berlin) Either Germany turns attention to Britain and loses with the USSR on its flank or the other way around. Italy isn’t too much of a help but one time was able to take the Caucasus with some transports. Japan, like I said, seems almost unstoppable but once Germany and then Italy is out it can’t hold on for too long. I feel tempted to play with NOs but it seems super unbalanced in favor of the Axis. My group (especially some players) is super new to the game so let me know if we’re just making a miss-play as the Axis. Any report of the general consensus on the balance without NOs would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

  • @ckladman Yes, the game tends to favor the allies without objectives, and the axis with. To balance, you could trying giving a bid (additional starting units) to the side that is at a disadvantage, or play with objectives but reduce the payout. (3 ipcs vs 5.)
