Woo hoo!
Finally got one right (before Krieghund!!!).
Saving Private Ryan
Sometimes we’ll put a movie on in the background…
U-571
Oh please NO!!!
I know A&A isn’t a historically accurate board game, but that film is so bogus
It was British personnel from HMS Bulldog who first captured a naval Enigma machine, from U-110 in the North Atlantic May 1941, before the United States entered the war. The british government even issued a statement condemming the film.
Imagine, if you would British Soliders raising the flag on Iwa Jima in a film?
Anyways, I would put a documentary series on. I prefer a good war doco to most war films, as historically inaccuarcy makes the history teacher in me rage :-D
A little love to the pacific theater, AMC had Tora Tora Tora, and Midway back to back on Sunday, had to tell the GF it was a stay in Sunday.
Big Red 1
Zulu!!!
Das Boot.

Just Zulu! its a 1960’s movie. Everyone Needs to Watch it!
I know that’s why I put the little devil smile at the end of my post.
I like that movie. Micheal Caine and that other bloke did quite well. Lots of tension and the end was cool.
I second Band of Brothers. What a great miniseries. If you haven’t seen it, watch it now.
“Don’t you throw… that ruddy spear… at me…” fires service revolver into face of attacking Zulu…
Zulu dies…. 120 take his place… Lets see you fire again.
We generally have military marches from the time period playing in the background. If you ste i up right the music even matches up with the turns pretty much.
See this thread for some links.
Zulu dies…. 120 take his place… Lets see you fire again.
BANG!!
“Don’t you throw… that ruddy spear… at me!”
*Runs Zulu through with sabre while reloading service revolver one handed… using special technique taught to a few high ranking English officers…"
Hehe. I second the choice of Das Boot. It is both funny and scary when the silence breaks with a really loud, really desperate whisper in german. Especially when everybody sucks at german.
Das Boot.
Easily. Creates a great gaming atmosphere. It’s dull and monotonous enough that it seeps into the background as random noise and chatter. There’s also no monotone narrative to listen to (which is what you want to avoid). U
Unlike other war films, which are distracting, this movie isn’t filled with explosions and shootouts. The movie is long enough (I use the 5 hour director’s cut edition) that it can be played during a game of A&A without looping. Most of all it’s in German, which again, sets the mood.
Sometimes I just use the opening screen for Medal of Honor – that works well too.
I’ll also nominate Downfall, for similar reasons as Das Boot. Plus a lot of it takes place in a war room.
