    The attacker (never the defender) can retreat during this
    step. Move all attacking land and sea units in that combat
    that are on the battle strip to a single adjacent friendly
    space from which at least 1 of the attacking land or sea
    units moved. In the case of sea units, that space must
    have been friendly at the start of the turn. All such units
    must retreat together to the same territory or sea zone,
    regardless of where they came from.

    Unless there was an addendum to this rule made, I dont see how you could ever argue that a “single adjacent friendly space” can mean the same space where the battle. Friendly isnt the problem but adjacent seems clear.

    One could imagine a scenario where all the subs started in the sea zone and no additional ships were sent and then you could ask where are you allowed to retreat to. But thats not what happened here so unless you have some ruling saying somethat that the rules dont I think the rules clearly speak to the fact that in this case you have to retreat your subs out of the sea zone to a space where either one of the visiting subs or dd came from.

    It also says that the space that they retreat to must have been friendly at the start of the turn. Which in this case there was a dd there so it wasnt friendly, so they cant retreat there either. So its neither adjacent nor friendly. So I think in this case there is no uncertainty.

    Yeah would be very interesting to know the ruling for the scenario where no sea units moved during combat move, but want to retreat.


  • @pejon_88 I’m sorry about that! Because my subs can submerge, rather than retreat, I just thought I could submerge them. Let me look through the rules.


  • @captainnapalm if you want to submerge them, then bomber has to stick around for the next round.


  • @ksmckay retreat happens at end of combat round while submerge happens at beginning, so you could submerge at beginning of round 2 but then the bomber is committed for another round and if it survive you end of round 2 it can then retreat (doubtful).


  • @pejon_88 I agree! Love learning new rules. I’ve done that edit before. I just assumed Triple A didn’t handle the complexity of the sub rules, right. I guess it was me that couldn’t handle it! Haha.
