Seeing Hooker was never going to take the offensive, Lee pulled two more Divisions, those of South Carolinian RH Anderson and Georgian Lafayette McLaws from in front of Hooker and led them himself against Sedgwick in conjunction with Jubal Early. It was to be a day of frustration for Lee, as he could not prod McLaws forward and get the 3 division attack going. Sedgwick withdrew over Banks’ Ford when he lost Marye’s Heights to Early.(Early had a great battle.)
This was the cue for Hooker to call the campaign over and he withdrew over US Ford on the 5th. Casualties were high for the four day battle: 13000 for Lee and 17000 for Hooker. Lee’s proportion was too high, considering he only had 60000 to start with.
Lee and the South had bettered an army twice the size of their own and given Virginia breathing space. Lee’s next move, as it had been in 62, after a victory, was to move North.
Gettysburg awaited.
Jackson would never again be Lee’s “right arm”’ as he passed away on the 10th from complications from his amputation.

There’s a lot of things Bush has done that has made me pissed enough to spit in his general direction. But your level of interest in the current president is not the same as being liberal enough to get the man running against the Republican to ask you to be his Vice President.
Think about it. It doesn’t matter that he did not take the offer. What matters is the guy is SO liberal that the Democrats want him for their Vice President! (Not just switching sides and being a Democrat Senator, they wanted him to be the deputy leader of their party!)

And from all reports, McCain actually considered taking the offer. Reports have it he thought twice of jumping ship to lead the other party, once when McCain offered him the Veep and once before when he lost to Bush Jr.

Thank you Dezrt. That is precisely the answer I am looking for. The whole thing was blown up to a ridiculous proportion over something as little as a job offer from one American to another. And what did he say? “No.” End of story. But is it the end of story for other people? “NOOOOO!” They want to drag it out like a conspiracy. :|

Not a conspiracy theory. Go back to about the teens or twenties for page numbers in this thread. I have all the exit polls to prove my statement. 60% of McCain’s votes came from people who considered themselves Democrats or Independents. Another 20% from those who consider themselves Liberals.
That’s 80% of his votes from Democrats, Independents or Liberals.
Why in the world do you think there’s a Republican push to nominate Hillary? We’re just paying the Democrats and Liberals back for McCain!
That, and McCain’s promised to run no ads against Obama what-so-ever, so the only way we can get the truth about him is if Hillary’s campaign gives us the information.
