Players in the UK.

Netherlands joins the Axis
If playing with the Netherlands Fights Back expansion, what happens if an Allied player, say the UK or France pays the IPP penalty and attacks the Netherlands?
Do they join the Axis? If so, how does that effect Japan and the DEI? Which Nation Player Controls the Netherlands? -
RE: French Strategies for 1936
@Slamhelsing
I find a couple of AA guns can be useful. One in Paris and one in Picardy/Lorraine to ward off/snipe a German aircraft or two can be cost effective.
A good spread of Militia especially in Paris and Lorraine can be good ablative wounds especially when they have a bunker/city bonus, a small stack of Inf and Art in Picardy seems to be a must but is probably just cannon fodder, add a couple of light armour or a Char B to Paris to give you some punch if IPP and time allows.
Having a holding force of inf/art in Bordeux can be a good method of reducing the likelyhood of encirclement but this will come at the cost of Frontier or Paris defences. Bordeux being particularly effective because you will only be engaged by Blitzing forces and thus each wound you inflict will be more costly.It seems the chances of being able to repulse the German attack is slim and would have more to do with bad rolls and luck rather than a “fool proof” strategy. Maximizing the cost to German forces should be your main aim, that is what the above spend/deployment seeks to do.

RE: French Strategies for 1936
@Slamhelsing
Alternate take:
It has been proposed that France could be effectively “abandoned” and many of the forces shipped out to Africa, gambling on most of them becoming Free French.
Most of the forces in France will evaporate once Paris is taken/encircled so in an attempt to utilize these forces to a greater extent later, they could be shipped to sub saharan africa/syria in the Hope’s that these units become FF and can be used as auxiliary forces to shore up the British. The aircraft are particularly valuable in this respect as it would allow the Free French to launch limited offensives of their own against the likes of Italy.
The obvious downsides are that you will be less likely to cause casualties to Germany in the battle for France and a 50% chance that they will all become Vichy anyway.
But given that a German player can engineer their attack to result in negligible casualties anyway and the 50/50 gamble can be partially negated by a good spread in the re-deployment of the Forces it might well be worth a shot given the seductive possibility of having a useful Free French force in Africa in 1940. -
RE: New Special Unit Ideas?
@SS-GEN
I’ve been using the Stats for TDs, Artillery, and SPAs in the Global 36 v3 rules.
They do have separate SPA and TD units available for most nations. I like the Hummels and Stugs myself.
I think that the AT artillery would be formidable enough with just A:2 D:4 M:1 C:4 Target Select Vehicle 1-3 on defence. Hell, 1-2 TS would be decent enough.
I think if you give the TDs and ATA the +1 inf support then you’ll squeeze the regular Artillery and SPA out of the game a bit. Otherwise I reckon it’s a fairly decent defensive unit.
What do you guys think about Armoured Cars/Recon Units?
I’m working on using ACs in the game.
They will have the stat profile of Cavalry but will move 2 in Desert terrain (instead of mountain), cost 4 IPP, can pair with other vehicles to allow them to move 2 in desert, and pair with Armoured units to blitz in the desert.
Also, if they havent/wont use either of these abilities, they may give a +1 to the opening strike of Artillery and SPAs. -
RE: Japan wartime bonus question V3
@MAX1313
Yes is the answer.You get 2 IPP for each territory regardless of how many you control. You dont need all of them.
So if you only held the Philippines then you would only get +2 IPP. If you held Java, Borneo, and the Philippines, you would receive +6 IPPs.The same is the case for the +1 Territories in China and the +1 For Wake, Midway, and Solomons.
If you hold a listed territory, and are at war with a major power (barring Eveolved China), then you will get the IPP bonus for that territory .

@generalhandgrenade Thanks GHG. Useful info for my ongoing game.
Bad luck the Spring Offensive. Had my money on you. Better luck next time. -
RE: Italian Special Rules/Abilities?
@Slamhelsing
An interesting idea but there would have to be some alternative downside if you take the income increase away from the allies.

Soviet Surprise Attack Clarification
This may have been answered before but a couple of quick queries.
Does the German player have to use the “Soviet Suprise Attack” special rule on the turn that they declare war?
It says “Once per game…” “if the Germans declare war on the soviets…”
It doesnt say anything about doing it on the turn they declare war.
Could it be used several turns into the war?Additionally, the Motorised Inf upgrade rule says that Regular Inf can be upgraded if they are in supply path.
Can the Inf move the turn they are upgraded?
Can they be in a newly captured territory?Thanks.

@Chris_Henry
Thanks guys, I was wondering if there was anything specific about Paris being liberated.
But what you guys said seems to make sense. -
What happens to Vichy when Allies Liberate Paris?

RE: French response to Japanese Aggression?
@GeneralHandGrenade
Oh I appreciate the “Historical” aspect of it. Though I think your argument is much more grounded in the world or World War 1. I think that by the 30’s France and Britain were very much seeing eye to eye on maintaining the status quo.The rush for Empire as the Europeans saw it, was over and the maintenance of said Empires after WW1 was a large concern. This is why, amongst other things the Imperial powers cooperated in the Chinese concessions at the turn of the 20th century.
I also disagree on the value of the Asian-African colonies as you put it. India was still the jewel in the crown of the British Empire, French indo-china was the second most invested in colony of the French after Algeria (which was seen as essentially part of France) and given the difference in size and distance between the African and Asian holdings for France it’s quite a considerable investment.
But the Historical aspects aside, I think that if the Japanese had invade India before the war in Europe began, the French would have had a significant response given the threat they would have felt from such Japanese aggression. And in Game purposes I think it might just be either an oversight or ill conceived. I think that the French should have something more akin to a D-6 IPP increase.
As always I appreciate your input GHG. You’re always a good man to get a word from and your insight is always welcome.

RE: French response to Japanese Aggression?
@Chris_Henry
Also it’s interesting to note that there are no income increases whatsoever if one or more of the Axis/Commintern declares war on the US. Which again is quite possible given the scope and scale of the game.I’m not surprised by this particularly on a “Historical” perspective, but from a gameplay perspective an adjustment might be needed.
I mean what if a concerted Axis effort is made to invade the US in July '38/Jan '39?
It might be a viable strategy but it also might be a game breaker from a classical standpoint. The remaining Allied powers would have little comeback. -
RE: French response to Japanese Aggression?
@Chris_Henry
Well the UK was technically “neutral” in terms of War/Peace, however I dont think that any of the major powers fall under the Neutral Category when determining income increases.But I would expect there to be a seperate category for if this event were to take place. Given the scope of the game it’s quite possible, even if unlikely, that the Japanese might declare war on the UK or France before the European Axis do.
As this is the case I think there should be a seperate allowance for this, even if it isnt that the “other” doesn’t go to Wartime income (which kind of makes sense as why would the French fight for India or Hong Kong, or the British for French indochina). -
French response to Japanese Aggression?
In a recent game my opponent and I discovered after an early (Jan '38) Japanese attack and capture of Calcutta that the French have no income increases from such an action. The US gained its 5 x D12 increase and obviously the Commonwealth went to full mobilization, but I was surprised to see that the Fremch have no response whatsoever.
Is this an oversight or by design? I can see why it might not be a good idea for the French to go to a war footing (especially as the European Axis hadnt attacked anyone yet), but I would expect at least the same sort of IPP increase as they get for Japan attacking China, if not more.
Thoughts?

That is correct, you cannot build Factory upgrades or shipyards etc.However you can build minor ICs and any other facilities that dont require home territory.
