I’m mainly using the AAAM planes with AAM but not for every game. I did convert to V2 so I’m not after more of the v1 sized planes

RE: Why is Foruminis so much more popular than here?
I was on this site, as it was the first I found to support the AAM miniatures I bought into and loved. At the time the AAM traffic held its own with that A&A Board game that doesn’t do it for me. I don’t remember when I left here as the traffic had died down considerably. I did hold on longer than many though and eventually went to the Gleemax site from WotC. It was an awful experience as even there my favorite game was relegated to deep recesses hidden under layers of Magic and other fantasy junk. I held on again as I didn’t want to be a member of two websites but was eventually convinced to go to Forumini. It has been a great community as its focus is all miniatures.
I was just poking around here for old times sake. I’m glad I did as I saw FMG sad announcments.

RE: Heavy weapons
Test Guy,
I agree that that is standard soldier training because the heavy weapon has a greater opportunity to influence the outcome of the battle than a standard rifle does. In other games I play, we have that option to pick up the weapons of others. I accept that that doesn’t happen here and we can say that the weapons were permanently damaged during the fight.
That said, I wished only yesterday that my Fallschirmjagers could capture and use the Bofors on the Intrepid Hero who sat close by in the woods.

RE: Operation: Market Garden
Looks good Testguy,
I’ll give it a try. Right now I’ve just completed a map for Maleme Airfield in Crete which was a German Airborne Operation. I’ll be testing it over the next month and will post afterwards. The map uses 3" hexes and is overall 3 ft by 5 ft in size. My game plan is 500 points on each side.

RE: Hey all…
I’ve a fair amount of everything.
What might you be looking for. I mainly collect German and Commonwealth items

RE: War At Sea Database
Nice start, sorry I’m a technophobe and would be of no use helping you expand it.

RE: Campaign 1 SCRO 3
Test guy,
I like the basic look of what you’re doing here and applaud the campaign plan. For my Canadian heritage I might follow a Canadian unit through the Italian Campaign.
Unfortuanately, I’m unable to play any games until late May as my job has me half a world away from my playing pieces.
I’ll give these a try this summer.

RE: Dieppe Raid
Sorry Testguy, if it is some sort of computer issue, I can’t help out with that

RE: Dieppe Raid
When AAM was first introduced all the maps had two inch hexes. The three inch hex is part of the games evolution to a standard 15mm scale.
-
RE: Dieppe Raid
In reality it is hard to employ this piece and we always just say it has reached the beach. From there it may be difficult to unload though and damages/ destruction can then occur.

RE: Worth it?
There are some who will say no for a number of reasons but I think that its a decent enough game. It can become costly depending on your resources but every hobby has a cost. Most will say to buy a base amount of pieces and then selectively buy on line what you want. If you want to buy into the Pacific theater, I’ve substantial Japanese and US pieces I don’t use.

RE: Protecting fuel and ammo dumps
Okay, thanks, I’m getting this now. You get a shot on my ammo dump and I roll for an immediate 33% chance that it blows up. This is regardless of the cover I have placed the unit in.
This roll misses so you carry on with the actual attack hoping to score two hits against my 3/3 defence. My rolling cover may limit your attack to disruption like any other soldier. Since the Ammo dump is a “Soldier” I can put it in a bunker to gain a 3, 4, 5 or 6 on the cover roll.
When disrupted I lose my ability to distribute ammo and my defence is reduced to 2/2.
If your soldiers get close enough, I get a short range attack of 5 against your soldiers and 2 against your vehicles.
How am I doing?

RE: Protecting fuel and ammo dumps
Mot,
So I place my ammo dump in a forest or even better in a bunker. You attack, I roll for cover and get it. Just the fact that you attacked still makes me roll a single die with a 33% chance of exploding. How does the cover help me?

Protecting fuel and ammo dumps
1) Can an ammo dump gain from being in cover? Or is it strictly that if an enemy just gets an opportunity to shoot, there is a 33% chance of getting it. I’d like think that a successful cover roll would mean that the damage roll is not even an option.
2) Playing large scale games demands ammo creativity. I was playing a 600+ point game on the weekend. I therefore spent 60 points on ammo dumps (10 points per 100). It was decoded that an ammo dump should influence to a range of six hexes. Therefore my dumps needed to be spread evenly through my area or even mounted on a truck. Then they would be subject to capture.
Any ideas?

RE: Largest Map?
Look deep into this thread to find photos of my 3D battle field and the big games we play.

RE: How old are you?
As usual, the division of age demographics is lumped together over sixty.
Why did you do this?
-
RE: Bastogne
Looks like you need to hit the library for some books. Obviously with the amount of army pieces you have so far you need to be creative. I’d play any pieces I had to make it a bigger army. Playing is better than being historically correct.

RE: Newb Advice on Minature Set
Actually that is the way it is.
The only starter you want is the 39-45 set. You might also get a booster or two.
North Africa (NA) and Eastern Front (EF) only come in boosters.
There are separate map packs for NA and EF that come with a few maps and a couple of planned scenarios. I’ve picked them up too.
The way the boosters are, you sure can spend a lot, a little at a time, on this game. Any other good game will cost as well but make sure you are hooked if you plan to spend to grow.
I’ve plenty of stock and have decided to grow only in the German and Commonwealth forces. Therefore I have plenty of good trade deals (ie US, Japanese etc available for trade).
Enjoy. It can be a very satisfying game if you take the time to learn how best to emply the special abilities.

RE: Newb Advice on Minature Set
Welcome to the forum.
What you need to know is that the scales of vehicles were standardized with the 39-45 set, North Africa and Eastern Front. If I was buying in now I’d only get those ones until I had done enough homework about some specific other piece I may want.
Get a 39-45 Starter, and a booster from each set. Teach the GF to play. It can be like chess. You’re thinking out as many turns as you can, using your pieces and their special abilities as best you can, assessing the ground and out thinking the opponent.
Always conduct an after action to discuss what went right and wrong.
Have fun eh!
