What is your biggest comeback in Global 40?

  • Give me all the gory details.

    Did Moscow/Calcutta fall?

Was it a point where normal people would have conceded but you fought on and managed to pull off the win?

Did France come back to conquer Berlin?

I want to bathe in glorious comebacks.

  • @dazedwit
One time I was playing my roommate, who was playing the Axis. At the end of his turn, he had two giant German stacks next to Moscow. If I did nothing but buy and place units with Russia, he would have a 90% win on Moscow on his next turn.
I strafed one of his stacks with a huge stack of infantry and got super lucky dice. Then with UK I did a nearly suicidal run into his barely protected German air force.
On his next turn, he had only a 25% chance on Moscow. The game went on for a long time after that, but his troops never recovered, and his morale was crushed entirely.

  • The Allies were doing great in the Pacific with India recaptured and the Money Islands liberated. Unfortunately Egypt had fallen and the dwindling forces in Moscow were surrounded by Germans.

The Japanese opened the attack on Moscow with a kamikaze air strike that should have strafed off enough soldiers to make it completely undefendable against Hitler’s ground forces. Snake eyes. Lots of snake eyes. A row of snake eyes from AA guns obliterated most of the Japanese attacks before they could even attack. The survivors mostly missed. About 12 Russian troops should have been lost, but instead only 2 were killed in this suicidal raid.

Still, Hitler had a 99% chance of conquering Moscow and winning the game the following round. Again, dice saved the Allies. The Axis forces had awful luck, and Moscow remained above with just one defender preventing capture.

Soon after, the Allies steamrolled into France, liberated Paris, and moved on into Berlin. Game over.

Oh, I just noticed you wanted to know about my biggest comeback, not defeat.

Funny how we remember the defeats better than the successes.

  • @AndrewAAGamer I do have fond memories of my League championship wins where I defeated superior opponents primarily through good luck, aided by some small mistakes by the opponents.
