I think what I would do is just stack Paris, sink z96, and grab Java and land the ANZAC fighters there. I calculate that Germany would have to use the entire luftwaffe plus all land units in range to take Paris without losing large number of tanks/mechs. I think this is historically fair because stacking Paris would be in the spirit of France being in defensive mode, and let’s just say that in the real war France got diced by the sickle cut. It should have been harder for Germany. So in this scenario the royal navy would be quite safe and without any possibility of sealion they could easily afford to nuke Taranto and build an IC in Egypt right away. Russia gets some breathing room and a strong UK gives USA more room to focus on the Pacific. ANZAC having an extra round of income and $14 for the first couple rounds is a small help too.
Linking Radar w/ Fighter Interception
-
I was thinking for a house rule to allow fighter intercept only of you have radar. I think this makes sense historically, since radar is what allowed the RAF to intercept during Battle of Britain.
-
yah that makes a lot more sence than radar improving your AA.
or maybe it allows the fighters to defend on 3.
-
yes i like the link as well but only as a modification of the fighter interception rule giving the fighters a bonus.
If you link Radar tech directly with on/off capability of interception is way too powerful. Also, Germans were able to defend against bombers w/o radar, but at reduced capacity.
-
I was thinking of allowing fighters to intercept w/ radar along w/ the bonus to AA.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but before British radar stations were fully operational, the Germans could achieve relative surprise, as they would constantly change their attack routs, thus RAF interception was rare, and almost required an unlucky running into a patrol. It was not until radar stations were fully operational that fighters could be directed directly to intercept the Luftwaffe.
Also, it wasn’t long after the Germans discovery of Britain’s advantage that they established their own radar defenses, which considerably contributed to the high casualty rate among allied bombers.
Thus, I think adding fighter interception to the radar tech effectively demonstrates it’s historical key role in the development of a defensive air combat command and control.
Finally, I’ve heard some say that radar is too weak, since “AA never hits anything anyway”. Besides, the enemy can always counter w/ fighter escorts.
