It doesn’t matter if the land unit survives to retreat or not. Just its having moved into the territory establishes the retreat path.
Air unit movement

Heya,
I am having doubts about the air unit movements,
How do you count the sea zones, for example how much movements is it from Eastern US to Algeria?
Or from Japan to Midway islands?
Please learn me something about it, I still don’t get the hang of it… :(
Thanks!

Easiest way to think of it, for me, is every time you cross a black line it is one movement point. E. USA to SZ 10 is 1 space. Hawaii to SZ 52 is one space.

So from Japan to Midway is 3 movements?
And from Wake to Hawaii is 2?
Correct?

Japan to SZ 60
SZ 60 to SZ 57
SZ 57 to SZ 56
SZ 56 to Midway Island4 Movements

@Cmdr:
Japan to SZ 60
SZ 60 to SZ 57
SZ 57 to SZ 56
SZ 56 to Midway Island4 Movements
I shall quote from the rules added to my Axis&Allies revised box:
When flying to an island group, count the surrounding sea zone and the island group itself as 1 space each
So it is 3 moves, cos the SZ56 to Midway does not count, by the rules given.

You must have misunderstood Jennifers post. It does cost a Movement Point to move from SZ56 (Midway sz) to Midway Islands.

The key word is “each”. I read this to mean each move counts as one space. One into the sea zone, another into the territory, just as if the territory were part of a continent.
If this were not the case, the “Island Bases” NA for the US in the rules would not make much sense.

It is 4 moves as Jennifer said and as the rule you cited also states.
You have to count 1 movement point for each of them island group and surrounding seazone. -
Yes, that “EACH” is the key term.
FIG on Midway (no movement).
Moves to SZ56 (1 movement)
Moves to SZ57 (2nd movement)
Moves to SZ60 (3rd movement)1 movement left.
