[Global 1940] France Goes First Idea
-
I was thinking for new players to axis and allies you could let France go first. Also France could be a single playable country. I think this is just a good, fun, and new idea in general. It also gives the Allies lots of options. For example France can take Northern Italy or try to take Western Germany or Belgium/Holland. Try it out.

Not a new idea. I proposed exactly that several years ago:
I playtested the France Goes First thing too.
France can’t suceed at Holland Belgium (and definitely not Western Germany), but they have a great shot at Northern Italy and a decent one destroying the Italian ships in sea zone 96, freeing up British forces at a crucial time (also makes Gibastion less dice-dependent).
Definitely caused some problems for the Axis, and helped balance the game a little (the Axis still won, but that was because of Allied incompetence).

4 years ago. Very balanced. Fun!!

@barnee I will go check it out thanks!
-
@crockett36 I guess I will have to try it! I plan to play Global for Thanksgiving break.
-
@SuperbattleshipYamato I actually think France should not take anything. Reason is lets say they take northern Italy if Germany liberates them and take Pairs the Axis just get more money if that makes sense. I think they should try to stack up as much as possible. I do think they should go after some Italian ships.
-
@FranceNeedsMorePower a raid is better. Try to get them to take the bomber as a casualty. Reducing the factory is a big deal though. Lots of ideas. A carrier build? Plane lands on carrier in 110 or 93.
Move to south France to delay the German advance. If they try g1, they will lose higher value units like tanks And trucks.
-
@crockett36 a g1 attack against s France would need every plane too. Save the British boats.
-
I agree, reducing the industrial complex and killing the strategic bomber can be quite damaging.
Stacking up might be interesting, as is retreating to the south.
-
@crockett36 I think the French should purchase 3 Infantry, 1 Artillery, 1 Tank. This would help if the player choose to try to defend France.
-
@SuperbattleshipYamato They don’t really lose IPCS through because they can retake it or Germany can.
-
Yeah, that is true, but since France is falling anyway the best they can do is to do as much IPC damage to the Axis by killing units as they can, and the Northern Italy attack does that the best, given the destruction of the strategic bomber and the loss of the major industrial complex (a good fallback in case Italy gets too big, they won’t be able to use their IPC most efficiently).
I think turtling would work as well though.
-
@FranceNeedsMorePower tank? 1@3? or 2@2? infantry would be better, I think.
-
@crockett36 I wish they had a transport so they could evacuate some forces.
-
-
@crockett36 for the purpose of handicapping.
-
@FranceNeedsMorePower I feel like it wouldn’t make much of a difference if France went first as France does not have many territories and even if they could get more troops / tanks it would still be delaying the inevitable. This would make the game interesting by putting the axis on the defense, but because of germanys huge power in the first few rounds it would do little

@Axis_Powers_r_Better In terms of a bid, AndrewAAgamer is giving 60. This is at least 19, Anything extra that dies will add to the benefit. Let’s assume a turtle in Paris. That is 10 more defenders. That means a greater commitment of German units. More air. That means more British ships survive. Say a plane is shot down. Maybe the casualties go as deep as the tanks. These possibilities, both negative and positive for the Allies, quickly add up near 60. Try it out.
