Lol great post! Very few in my area in the middle of the USA know about A&A either. I saw it in a specialty board game store about 30+ years ago as a kid with my Dad.
With my Dad’s history he is totally anti-war, and it cost money, so no. Drove about 60 miles one way to get it when I was about 17. The rest is history. Loved it then, will always love it. I mostly had to play against myself, solitaire. I remember some of the excitement - figuring out how the Allies can work together and help Russia defend by sending planes. Figuring out that infantry are the best defense. Trying to take down Japan at the end - pretty tedious unless you get 3-hit heavy bombers. But the bombers cost 15 and a whole country’s economy was about 20-30!
I still like the 50th anniversary edition the best but no-one plays it since G40. I have it out right now, only a few moves in with my 21 year old son. He’s pretty busy with work and studies. I’m not  so I play veterans like you on-line.
I was just thinking, it’s great to move pieces and roll dice right in the presence of your opponent, but the convenience of playing whenever you want with online is fantastic. Plus the calculators. And rankings. And tournaments. Yeah.

Oh, but my Dad was a teenager during WWII, and he actually saved newspaper clippings. I just found out this summer that he actually still has them. He died in 2019, so we are inheriting things.
I got TWO big scrapbooks FULL of newspaper articles throughout WWII in both the Europe and Pacific theaters. I’ve gone through one of them one time, and they are absolutely amazing. Showing maps, fronts, and everything as it happened. He had articles from practically every day.

Doesn’t scan very well - it looks a lot better than this - but check it out

Thank you for the posts.
History is a hobby from me exspecially WWI and WWII.
My father was born 1928 in Poland. His mother was German the father polish. In Nov42 the Nazis makes my family to German because of the german mother. I think they did it to became new soldiers. My father had to fight for Germany first as AAGuner and in the end of 44 he has to fight against red army. Only 1 battle and than POW. After the war he went to Germany because in Poland they would kill him for fighting with the Nazis. This was up to the death of my parents every week something to discuss. -
Whoa, that’s amazing, thanks for sharing.
My father was also born in 1928, so that’s cool.

Back to the game.
There was a reset at the eastern front to Dec41. Germany is knocking on the gates of Moscow.
And I think your landing is only the inferno of Dieppe.Game History

Hehe, without looking it sounds like you made the right move. I had to do a lot of different calculations to make sure I can move into Ukraine. Really didn’t want to fly over that AA
-
I am not really sure about this move. In germany we say: To Attack is the best defense.
-
That is a saying here too.
I’m still digesting your dramatic family story. My son and I are pretty much in awe. -
Thanks for beeing interested. In later years my father and grandfather were happy to go to W-Germany. Poland was 45 years under russian occupation and the part of family stays in Poland was very poor but they couldnt go away anymore. I visit Poland in the 80er years and I was shocked about living standard there. But Polish people hates the russians much more than the germans, and we did much more crime than russians.
My father tells me about the other young soldiers (13-!8 years) and real Germans he has to fight with them, they were most fanatic people he ever meet and they believe really to win this war in the end of 44. They do everything for the Führer (Adolf Hitler), including to die.
Another truth about that is, my father wasnt anymore an poor polish child now he was Herrenmensch. Something like a big upgrade from nothing to King. And the war was in the beginning a great adventure. where you can travel around Europe. The Nazi System works very effective by this young people. There were soldiers from all european countrys in the german SS and most as volunteers. There was SS Army Group Viking (norwegian, danish), SS Army Group Wallonien (french, belgian and dutch soldiers), they defend at least the Reichskanzlei in Berlin May45. -
Oops, forgot to upload.
.
.
.I’m enjoying every word of your story and what you know about the SS. Also how many young people from most of Europe voluntarily joined because of the adventure, excitement, and the atmosphere. I will never forget what you are telling me about these things.
-
Thank you. Most of these foreign soldiers says after the war: We wanted to fight against communism. These SS Divisions only fight on eastern front and not against the western Allies. Maybe therefore they fight up to absolut end because Russians knew this and back to home was difficult as SS Soldier.
