Waffen-SS Army

This rule is part of the Axis & Allies Global 1940 2E, House Rules Expansion.

During the early stages of the German Strategic Operation Barbarossa vast amounts of Red Army soldiers were captured or annihilated.

The Red Army Conscription rule reflects the seemingly inexhaustible pool of soldiers - that eventually halted the Germans on the doorstep to Moscow.

For use with Axis & Allies Global 1940 2E, House Rules Expansion:

This is an example of a German Panzer Army (1st. Panzer Army). To display the Panzer General Unit, we use a Tiger I. The other 5 panzer units in the Panzer Army are Panther tanks.

The German Panzer Army is identical to a US Tank Army, Soviet Tank Army and UK Tank Army.

The combat strength of a Panzer Army (or Tank Army) is 10 dice rolls in each round of combat - for as long as the Panzer Army is intact (no combat losses).

A&A is fundamentally a board game, and its relationship to more rigorous military-simulation wargames (both hobby-level and professional-grade) is roughly the relationship that the Monopoly board game has to the kinds of economic-simulation games that are detailed and accurate enough that they could be used as teaching tools in a management school curriculum.

I agree to the Monopoly comment, or maybe better said, without historical events and situations to use in conjunction with play, then A&A is just a glorified version of Risk.  But, I want some history and random events that change the play of the game.

I’ve done the seperate boards thing.  It was with vanilla, but it worked out nicely.  We tried it once with AA50 but after buying three sets (1 for the moderator, 1 for the axis and 1 for the allies) we were not too happy with the results.  Then again, after everyone was drunk and high on pepperoni, mistakes started to happen and it spiralled out of control.

I would imagine things like that would be difficult to manage. In one respect I think it’s fair your enemy see some of things you have avaiable. What units are on your airbases, what’s in your harbours that sort of thing. I don’t think enemy should be able to see where my Navy and full armies are that aren’t acvtively engaged somewhere. I don’t think he should get to see where any of my subs are until they’ve attacked something. And after that he should only know their last known location.
Would be very hard to administer, but it would add an interesting mechanic as well.

We said that Fighters could “scout” two territories out, so if you had a fighter on the board, you could see all enemies within two territories.  Armies could see all enemies adjacent to them.

Spies: These cost 10 IPC each and can be assigned in secret to any specific enemy player’s technology category (land, sea or air). If that player decides to develop a technology in this category and it succeeds, the spy may be revealed and the spy gets to roll obtaining technology on a roll of 4-6. Note: the Soviet player is the only player that can send spies to his own allies and they cost 5 IPC.

Counter Spy: Each player may buy a super spy which can be used to eliminate the enemy spy 1:1 basis but this is also assigned to a specific technology category (land, sea or air) to any technologies that can be developed.

SS PANZERS
(Germany only)
SS Panzers are specialized in repelling enemy advancement and make a conciderable reinforcement to the German player’s defense.

SS Panzers cost 8 I.P.C.’s and can only be built in Germany. A SS Panzer unit has a movment capability of 1, defends on a 5 and attack on a 4.

SS Panzer units can be shipped via transports and may be built above regular armor units.

One can use regular armor painted in black as SS Panzer units.

If using the optional rules for Weapons Development Benefits in Axis & Allies® Second Edition Rules Booklet, the German palyer may build SS Panzer units instead of starting the game with Jet Power.
