fyi I started the allied turn, got past Chinese turn, then started UK turn and realized during CM that I purchased wrong, so I figured I’d reload from autosave as I usually do (rather than edit), but then there was no autosave!
however, I believe I have a save somewhere, so I will try to reconstruct the Chinese turn. you should have all the dice emails to verify of course.

all that’s needed is any warship, including an enemy sub. so in this case, I sent my sub in and that was all that was needed. I could then simply ignore your sub

you are right. I wonder if that was changed at some point. Good to know. Made some of my sub placements completely worthless without realizing it. Assumed you would have to send a surface ship to escort.

in the first edition, there was a rule about transports moving through or into sea zones without surface warship escort. In first edition subs got to fire at passing transports that werent escorted by surface warship. Eventually they changed that rule and made it so that as long as transport was escorted by any warship it could ignore them. I knew they had changed the original rule but missed the change from surface warship to just warship. thankfully it doesnt really matter in this particular scenario.

ah yah, that’s easy to miss. I too seem to recall there being a distinction between surface warship vs any warship, just not remembering right now which rule(s)
