Thank you for the question. It definitely raises awareness of this feature.
How does chat work?
-
not sure where to post this so …
Probably the wrong place but…How does chat work precisely ? I hit space for a paragraph break and the msg has already paper airplaned out. : )
How do I end a chat and start another so it’s not a huge run on msg ?
Thanks

@barnee While on the old forum the Privat Messages was email-like, the new forum chat is different. Imagine the chat being a room that includes you and your chat-partner(s). So when you want to contact another user you create a sort of chatroom and address him. Your chat partner sees your message and answers (adds his text to your common chatroom).
So practically you never end a chat. Actually the message is sent out only once. But it is “archived” inside that chat room as long as you don’t delete this room. You can scroll back to old messages as long as you don’t leave that room.Does that help understanding this feature?

@Panther Thanks for the reply Panther. I’m trying to figure out how to end a chat. Unless i leave it just keeps adding to the same msg.
Or does the recipient receive the messages independent of each other ? Not a big wall of text ? Think one could miss updates to the message if it just keeps showing up.
Hmm… thinking I might get it now. If I msg/chat someone, hit the paper airplane, then chat at them again, It will just always show that chat/msg with everything that was ever chatted about.
Kinda like commenting on triplea forum ? The one people play live at ?

@barnee ahh…only makes a break in the text when they respond ?
-
@barnee Yes. basically it works like any other “classic” chatroom offered by the internet. Or like a communication in any messenger, such as WhatsApp, Hangouts, Facebook or whatever…
The message is sent out only once, but the chat timeline (or chat history) is saved and kept.

For a paragraph break hit “Shift + Enter”.
This will start a new line/paragraph instead of immediately send out the text when only hitting “Enter”. -
