@ShadowHAwk:
Those minors are most likely in chinese areas so how long will you hold onto them once you basicaly take all your forces away to take india?
Japan does not have that kind of money and will need some just to defend the homeland itself.
What prevents the US from taking back philipines once it has SZ6, you can even start reclaiming the areas that have factories on them and since they are chineese you can reinforce with inf instantly. With only 2 factories vs 1 in korea and the chinese production you will be hard pressed.
And with nearly no ground forces left after the india attack how ill you take back the money islands from anzac?
I’ll go over and shake the US player’s hand in gratitude if they split their fleet to retake the Philippines, thus allowing me to destroy the fleet in detail rather than collected in one big defensive ball.
It occurs to me that since I know all of these things might happen that I might have left some force in Manchuria to deal with a US conquest of Korea. Even if it’s not enough to retake the territory, it will certainly be enough to keep the US bottled up until my fleet returns. It also occurs to me that if the US is threatening sea zone 6 in enormous force that I would have to be a fool to let all my ground forces get lost taking India. I will also know exactly what the US can land with because I will see it coming.
I won’t lose all my ground forces in India. I’ll have plenty left on the mainland, at factories that have been producing for several turns contributing enough forces to overwhelm India with proper air and naval support. I’m sure you’re familiar with the concepts of factories in Malaya, FIC, and yes, even on mainland China. When my fleet heads for India, those factories begin building forces to defend themselves and Japan gets a defensive build. The next turn, those factories get to build defensively again, before the US can actually build its factory.
On its next turn, the US can either defend sea zone 6, build an IC in Korea, try to retake the Philippines, or try to shut down my factories, but they can’t do it all. ANZAC will have had its income nerfed already, so it is not a problem, and one of the fleet’s jobs is covering the flank to prevent ANZAC from causing trouble while India gets crushed.
By the time the US is pumping out troops from that shiny IC, my fleet and air force will be closing in on ANZAC or sea zone 6 (my choice). If it’s the latter, my planes will be positioned to hit sea zone 6 in conjunction with my fleet.
When my attack on India is ready, the US can have sea zone 6 and Korea. The turn I take India, the US can build its factory. I can strat bomb it on Japan’s next turn, with plenty of fighter escort. Now, with its no longer shiny factory, and the possibility of the Japanese fleet heading back to sea zone 6, the US can build three units (after it buys off the damage). Is it going to A) buy naval units or B) by forces to start rolling back Japan’s mainland holdings?
You say there are more US forces coming. Ok, then exactly what is the US player sending to Europe?
Now, you may say that the US brings enough force to start rolling up Japan’s mainland holdings, retake the Philippines, and also defend its shiny factory, but if it brings that much land force it’s sea zone 6 force is probably so weak that I don’t have to worry too much about it.
I haven’t even mentioned deploying blockers to slow the US down by a turn in taking sea zone 6, nor have I mentioned using blockers to slow down the advance down the coastline if the US fleet decides to follow the Japanese fleet. There are all sorts of fun options with blockers.
And then there’s a really fun option if I don’t feel that I can reclaim sea zone 6 or put enough pressure on ANZAC: once I take India, i go kill UK factories in Persia and South Africa, guaranteeing victory on the Europe board due to the inevitable collapse of Egypt and Moscow, and in about four turns countering the loss of the 11 IPCs from sea zone 6 and Korea by taking all of sub-Saharan Africa.
Best yet: if my plans all go down the toilet, my buddy playing Germany still wins because if the US is spending in the Pacific it is either not spending enough to trouble me or it’s not spending enough in Europe to trouble Germany and relieve Russia.
