I remember reading about a balloonist in the 80’s who was trying to circumnavigate the world.
He crossed into soviet airspace over Romania accidentally and was shot down.
But that wasn’t the best part lol… the pilots who shot him down recieved medals for “bravery in the face of extreme danger”
L O L !
Another case where a balloon was mistaken as an “UFO”. Lol
Well Garg, those pilots WERE flying Soviet aircraft. Pretty brave if you ask me.
9th October sees the once proud Cavalry of NV put to flight

The small Cavalry battle of Tom’s Brook was fought today in 1864 in Shenandoah County.
Sheridan, commanding 30000 men in the Valley, wanted to destroy the Southern cavalry and gave Albert Torbert, the commander of his the DivisionCavalry, the job. He had two Divisions of 6300 troopers, including George Custer’s Division. Facing him, Tom Rosser of Virginia only had 3500. Many of the Southern mounts were also of poor quality.
The Southern force was routed, losing 11 guns and 300 men captured. The Southern cavalry retreated so quickly that the battle was also called The Woodstock Races.Happy Birthday Guerilla Guy.

You found one! I feel honored Wittmann, thank you! I do enjoy your research. I have a friend who farms in the Shenendoah Valley, when I go to visit him, I’ll have to visit the site.

My pleasure.
I found it on Wiki early yesterday morning, but is only a small entry.
When I got back from work I had a look through my own books, but could find little more detail. Was fun searching though.
