• Today, the 4tb March, in 1193 the great Saladin died.
His great victory at Hattin in 1187, leading to the fall of Jerusalem, was the main reason Richard I(of England) went on crusade. He was born in Tikrit in Mesopotamia, now Iraq and he was the greatest Muslim commander of his time, maybe ever.
He was chivalrous in battle(possibly more than Richard). Once, seeing his great foe lose his horse, he immediately sent a replacement, rather than see him hacked to death while fighting on foot. He also ensured Richard ate well while campaigning against him, sending him and his commanders wine, pears and grapes.
Richard gave up on his Crusade(the 3rd) in October of  1192 and  outlived Saladin, who died of fever five months later.
Richard died of a crossbow wound suffered inn France in 1199.
