Also, Russia does not get the Mongolians. Japan has not invaded any Russian territories that border Mongolia - the explicit reason they have not yet done so.
first the german tanks blitzed through china (an allied territory) without russia being able to chase them down…. but i tipped my hat to you on that one, bizarre as it was. but now, if the japs can tip-toe around mongolia, they can still attack russia and there’s no penalty whatsoever? why in the world do they not attack from the get-go?!?!?!
this is the very definition of “unintended consequences”… i think we’ve turned this game completely on its head. alpha+3 needs some serious revision if it allows this kind of circumvention of the spirit of the rules. we’re no longer concocting serious strategy, we’re performing contortions to find loopholes for bizarre ways to conquer territories that are not “against the rules.”
italy is up…
Sorry if I got on my soapboxed there… nothing personal. I know you’ve been involved in a lot of the revisions on this edition and others, and I appreciate that as much as most folks who get enjoyment from these game boards. It just seems to me we are having a forest/trees issue with this latest edition. We are so determined to create the perfect game that we are losing sight of the basic reason so many people come to this site: to enjoy playing a historically based game. We can’t imagine actually playing the game by its base rules – even though the designers are people with a proven track record. No, we need to constantly tinker with rules in our quest for the perfectly balanced game. Which is ironic considering that dice (the epitome of chance and luck) quite literally determine the outcome of every game. It is to the point now that a casual player can’t even keep up with what ruleset is being used from one day to the next. I have even stopped the use of anything but out of box rules for any F2F games… I can’t keep up with the nearly-daily versions. It’s almost as bad as software releases. Okay… I’ve had my say. Play it however you like. It is Italy’s turn…
A) I’ve been trying to convince Larry and Krieghund that it’s a glaring hole in the rules. But they don’t care, you can attack any Russian territory with Japan so long as it does not border Mongolia and Mongolia won’t care. (Though, I thought the whole premise was that Mongolia would be worried about a Japanese hegemony…but whatever.)
B) Why are the Mongolians not worried about a German hegemony??? As I demonstrated, tanks can easily get around the Russians and sneak out some IPC in the far east. If Japan cant get it, it’s still a good way to sap Russian strength, right?
C) I feel, and I have no proof of this, that Larry wanted Japan to not ignore China (as I long advocated before the rule change) and instead get bogged down in the tarbaby known as China (way too much effort, no where CLOSE too enough reward. Maybe up Chihar to 2 IPC so you can put a complex there and we’d have something worth going for.) I went in this game, because I knew Germany was going for the Mongolian border so Japan could ignore the need to sap Russian strength.
But that’s how I feel. IF you want to wrack the pieces back and start over, maybe switch sides if you want, I’d be glad for another game - unless you want to continue this one now that you own the Atlantic and the Suez Canal.
oh, let’s keep going. the scenario is pretty fascinating regardless of how we got here. i want to see if i can hold off the japanese… get il duce off the couch and tell him rome is in danger! ;)

NOT to be sneaky, but 2 Germany strategic Bombers landed in Suiyuan (China on the Mongolian border)
why did you take all of the ship bombardments against egypt in the second round? should the last three dice not count? shoot,… if i’d just hit something in the first round there i probably would held that. 8-)
eh, sorry. Well, one of the infantry and the bomber hit, so egypt was cleared anyway (both bomber and fictious battleship both hit…)
