Yeah, I read about that, the flagship of the English fleet captured last minute in the war. We’ll have to settle with HMS Victory instead.
Greatest ship of the line ( 1790-1815)

What single ship is the most feared warship of these times:
Santisima Trinidad 140 gun
Or
HMS Victory

HMS Victory. it had the superb English gunners and an outstanding reputation. not to mention one of the greatest admirals ever, Horatio Nelson

my god man how far back are we going to go with these ship-offs? Seriously what’s next are we going to have a thread comparing the Bireme with the Trireme?

Bah! Give me a quinquereme any day of the week! :-D

The Victory. British gunners were trained to shoot 2 shots for every 1 shot the enemy could. That’s pretty much doubling your firepower.
-
Yea British sailors are the best of that age.
Perhaps only French had good crews.
Spain had some of the worst.
In this comparison you really got to qualify the crew, since everything was so low tech.
The French had some 130 gun ships…HMS Orient?
