2011 Tournament discussion (AA50-41)

The AA50-41 sign-up thread is up.

We are also planning on doing a G40 tourney, but that will come later in the year.

    I have a request:

Is there any way to be placed in the opposite bracket from my brother, BigBadGoo?  We use axis and allies playing as way to spend time together and chat it up, as we don’t have much other opportunity to do so.  I’m sure some siblings would love the chance to play each other, but it’s better for our relationship to do that as little as possible.  Obviously, if we have to play, we will, but as a courtesy I would request that we avoid it if possible. He is hesitating signing up and this would help him get the motivation he needs.  :-)

Also, I think one request such as this could be extended to any player, who may also have people that they would like to avoid, and I know that can add a strain on the tourny scheduling, but I doubt more than a couple would make a request. If too many do, then forget about it. I don’t want to make the tourny more time consuming than it already is for the organizers.

Now, this request or exemption should only be used where there is familial ties or genuine bad blood between a couple players and it is better to avoid a match-up outside of the finals.  Obvioulsy players can’t use this to avoid playing people who they are afraid of or everyone would put a request in to be in the opposite bracket of Zhukov and Hobo and the like.  8-)

Unless that Larry decides about the everchanging alpha, you could be forced to use OOB!

Anyway, I think that G40 is best suited for 2 vs 2 or even 3 vs 3, because it can be very tiring play 1 vs 1

I think we should use OOB because Alpha has to many changes and with a new version coming out every second week. G40 singles is a bad Idea and I agree with Func that it should be 2 v 2. Not 3 v 3 because that means 1 layer has to be Italy and it is an in between power not major or minor

Alright, the brackets are up for the Spring AA50-41 tournament.  Games can begin at any time.  You have about a month to complete.
So we’ll take a look at Rd 1 progress the first week of April.

In an effort to complete these games PLEASE give Tournament games/turns precedence if you are playing other league games.

For new comers turns are generally expected to be made every 2-3 days.  But in reality, daily turns can also be the norm.

If any players are going to be gone for an extended period (vaction/work duties etc)  Please let me know as well as your opponent.  The sooner the better.

Rd 1 game threads should be as follows:

    S01 - Player A (axis) vs. Player B (Allies) - X Bid

Good Luck everyone and Game on!!!

For Round 1 this player will start the bidding:

1 - Top player on bracket
2 - Bottom player on Bracket

Bidding can be done via PM and games can start as soon as you complete it.

    Hi Axis,

Darth is done setting up the tournament, and we drew each other for the first round.  He “flipped” to start the bidding, and the bottom of each bracket is supposed to start.  That’s you.

I looked for a few minutes and couldn’t find the guidelines for tournament play.  I haven’t played in one yet.  Like can we choose whether to play tech or not?  Can you point me to the rules, or I can ask someone else if you don’t….

    Thanks,
    We should start bidding,

    Gamer

    Hello,

I believe your question about the tourney rules can be answered here: http://www.axisandallies.org/forums/index.php?topic=22003.0.  No tech is one specific question you had.

I believe I start the bid, and with that, my bid is:
I’ll play the Allies with 6

Best of luck in our game / the tournament.

Not sure about doubles or G40 yet.

    @Amon:

can we play with triple a?

If both players agree.  I haven’t used it while, but assuming you can manually update the map (edit mode) so one player can use it and one can’t I don’t care.  Because…
