More painted pieces for consideration

JWO, I’m slowly repainting most of my set and will post pics of my other pieces as well. Installing the magnets sometimes damages the pieces. In the future I will be installing magnets FIRST. Right now I’m working on the French.

Hey I noticed HBG now is selling packs of 5 of the pieces from the Japanese set. One of the items they are selling are the J9Y Kikka Jet Fighters which were only included with preorder sets.

And what’s your storage solution for all of these, especially the planes? I’m always on the lookout for innovative ideas to copy!

hey spitefire, thanks the boomerangs were fun too paint. I got my sources from a sweet database site that has every squadron of every type of fighter bomber or transport used in ww2 ww1, called Wings Palette http://wp.scn.ru/

bellow are some of the schemes I had painted. Storage solution is still in the contemplating stages. I have seen guys on here use big fishing tackle boxes for there units which I think I might use as well, dividing up the different types of pieces. Do you use anything special, or John Brown??

Well, if you look in my tutorial thread in the stickied posts at the top, you can see my storage solution I created out of a plastic box and some balsa wood and felt. It works great, but it’s getting too full, so I need to either make another or switch to a new storage solution.

I use those Plano fishing tackle boxes from bass pro shop to protect my pieces. I really don’t know of anything better and less you build something and unfortunately, I’m not a builder, LOL. :-D

Same here, I use small clear tackle boxes. I customized them with large 4" stickers representing the countries roundel.

One of the pieces I’m waiting for out of the Axis expansion set is the Graf Zeppelin. The OOB sculpt is smaller than it should be compared to the other CV’s. They are remaking it in this set.

Yes, it is a pain for sure trying to keep Stukas on such a little piece of plastic, LOL! :-D

Evening painters and customizers,

Just wanted too share some capital ship “flags” I have been working on for some of my painted battle ships. A few months ago John Brown had found someone who created some union jack stickers in some really good AA sizes. Spitefire had tried them out and had reported much what I had discovered using them aswell. They are difficult to peel off…set up, and leave a raised ridge on the surface where as a decal is flat and ominous. However I have found a use for these stickers (which john brown sponsored me in sending me a sheet…thanks buddy) and I have found they make for excellent ship flags! The scale variety was perfect, and they have the ability to bend and shape them as though they are blowing in the wind passing through sea zones. They are a pain to stick together to get both sides of the flag…but if you have the surgical steady hand it can be done. Bellow are some pics. Please let me know what you guys think and if any other customizers would be interested in capitol ship flags to scale, maybe I can convince this manufacturer to do more sheets for the Japanese, Italians, and Americans.

now these, Yamato and Nagato, are hand painted flags. I painted the rising sun on decal paper, wet it then bent it into shape. Clearly the hand painted to that scale just isn’t as nice as the cleaness of the stickered prints.

These two painted churchills, I tried to put the union jack stickers on the back for country in game indentification. However as you can see after I clear coated over the painted tanks, the sticker began to lift on the corners and even moved off centre, the lacquer must have messed up the sticker glue. So no go on the stickers on the units I would stick with decals as most customizers on here do.

Cool, Jwo, I didn’t realize that you were using the stickers as actual flags, hoisted up. I thought you meant on the piece, itself.

That is pretty awesome, and your painted pieces are awesome.

hey guys, so I was searching some camo desert schemes for HBG’s Valentine medium tank and came across this one. Â However looking at the sculps I knew it would be tough to paint these blue lines in because most of the tank is all track! so I cut out and shaped some track guard armour like the photo below just using some clear flexible plastic and glued in too the sides…making these two tanks mk II’s which look to have had the side armour as a pose to the Mk V that HBG has sculpted.
