Europe 1940 shows up on Wizards site…with screenshot

  • @thomashawk:

I seems to me that there is 2 infantry (not stacked) in Norway, and a thin white line. It leads me to think that Norway has been split in two. Southern and Northern Norway. This is exiting, both in an historical context and gameplaywise.

    Anyone else see this?

If it were 2 territories, there would be 2 German roundels, of which there are only one.

  • Finally….IL will be please as i am

  • @calvinhobbesliker:

I don’t think neutrals have logos. Brazil is green because it will join the US

But it doesnt look American green it looks neutral green, like compare it too Spain its fairly the same.

Yea its definitely neutral, I think the washed out greenish color is just the map. S America was the same way in AA50. The Neutrals in the Mid East and Africa are a washed out tan, where Mongolia (Pac) is the washed out green again. There must be markings on them to determine if they are pro neutrals that we just can’t see.

W/Brazil being neutral US shouldn’t be able to enter until its at war, being a neutral itself. Brazil didn’t allow US access to its bases until early 1942 (US at war) and didn’t declare war its self until Aug 1942. There has to be a rule in place to keep UK from activating Brazil as a pro neutral, like the Dutch only allow UK or Anz to come in, not the US. I wonder if the axis take Brazil, if the UK can liberate it keeping the income, like US can liberate the Dutch from Jap and keep it. It looks like Venezuela has an inf shaded in, and Argentina (or Chile) might too, but it looks like Brazil is the only tt worth any ipc’s (probably worth 2, for a minor IC). Can’t really tell whats going on w/Guyana (looks multi-national), may not have ipc value, but it most likely comes with AB & NB at set-up. Looks like it shares the same sz as the northern part of Brazil. That way when US takes control of Brazil, it could build an IC and get use of the bases on Guyana in the same sz. That was good planning if its the case.

    Edit tip:
By the way I set the map posted on the Wizards site as my back ground on my desk top. It blows it up (about double) but it does distort it slightly. It is rather nice to just click the mouse and minimize AA.org to see the map for a quick reference.

  • Whats that neutral East of Poland?

  • @Dylan:

Whats that neutral East of Poland?

Pripet Marsh; it’s an impassable territory like the Himalayas

  • I don’t like the coloring of the board.  I wish it were all Earth-shaded, like Google Earth or whatever.  I think that would be best.  Experienced players would know which countries were neutral and etc., and the ones owned by hte powers will have troops or decals on them anyways.

Or I wish the board were colored for teh sake of being colored, like AA Revised was.  At least there you could tell they didn’t try to make it look like the Earth.  Here they mix the two themes and it doesnt look good to me.  Small critique though, it won’t stop me from buying the game.

Well in the AA50 they started doing that, they wanted it to look more real, and the continued with Pacific 40 and Spring 42.

  • Okay so I’m reading the description and let me show you guys a gaffe on their part:

Axis & Allies Europe 1940 will feature an oversized board that measures 35" wide by 32" high.

Finally, this deluxe theater-level game is designed to play together with Axis & Allies Pacific 1940. Together these two games will create the greatest Axis & Allies experience to date, with a combined board measuring 5’ wide by 32" high and over a thousand sculptured combat units.

Does anyone else notice that the measurements don’t match up? I mean if each board is 35"x32", then combining them should make a board 70"x32" right? Not 60"x32", as stated above. Do you guys think that this is just a typo, or the actual measurements are off?

  • Obvious the European map will be smaller

  • Well both boards are 35"x32", so either that 60"x32" is a misprint or the boards are 30"x32". When I get home tonight I am going to measure the board and get to the bottom of this.

Yes I did notice the measurements seemed off.  I would like someone to get to the bottom of this haha… But I just assumed it was 70" by 32" and the statement intended “over” 5’, since 70" isn’t quite six feet, and it doesnt read well to say the board will be 5.833 feet by 32 inches.

  • It’s 35’’ wide

  • Well to make it sound even better they should state, “almost 6 feet.”

  • Some criticism I’ve heard about the box art is the absence of the British flag on the box art, and the center of attention being on the Free French flag. Apparently the argument is that the British Empire did more fighting than the Americans (which is up for debate, but I’m not going into it here) and the Free French did little to nothing. I don’t understand this criticism when

1)the Brit flag has been seen on almost every Axis and Allies game to date, and even if it wasn’t the UK faction has been represented in every Axis and Allies board game (except Guadacanal and maybe the Battle of the Bulge–-haven’t played Bulge). Additionally, the UK is going to be well represented in Europe 1940 (Global 1940 even more so!).

2)I see nothing wrong with the Free French flag being the “main” flag here. Free French contribution to the Allied war effort wasn’t significant to turn the strategic tide, but it was enough to warrant worthy mention. However, all of that is irrelevant; this is the introduction of France as a full power for the first time in Axis and Allies. Sure, Italy’s flag might not have been shown in AA50 but you don’t see the Italians complaining do you?

Really, I don’t see what’s so insulting about the British flag not being shown on Europe 1940. We know what it looks like, we know how much the British contributed to the war effort (at least, people who know their history do), and we know they’re a major faction in the game. Only a dunce would have no idea Britain is in a game called “Axis and Allies: Europe 1940”.

  • off topic much? really its just a box…. why so serious?

It is just a box, I just don’t understand why the flag-waving British patriots have to whine and complain about it.

Their British they always do that.

And Americans and Canadians never do that… whistles innocently
