@mr-kell
I also thought of that. I think that’s a good idea.
I’ve said my piece and am willing to agree to disagree from here on out.
Agreed. :-D Also, the “geeky baggage” bit wasn’t directed at you specifically, so I apologize if it came off that way, I mean it for all of us, myself especially included as we’re all pretty geeky imho :-P And the Casablanca metaphor was nice too.
I hope you Live Long and Proser Frimmel (see geeky)
And thanks IL!
Really funny flick I caught this summer was “The Hangover.” It falls into a nice spot between “Bachelor Party” and “Very Bad Things.” Sort of what happens if you try to actually throw Rick Gassko’s bachelor party.
Has anyone mentioned “District 9?” The thing was made for like 30 million bucks, chump change these days. Really nice little flick.
I say take the 150 million spent on a Transformers 2 or JJ Trek and divide it 5 ways. Find 5 young hungry film-makers and give us a shot at getting 5 “District 9s.” If they all come up empty well we at least got 5 movies out of the 150 mil.
Speaking of comedies, there is an older movie from 2001 that is actually quite hilarious that I would recommend called Tomcats. :-D
Also one from 1983 Private School. :-D
These are timeless comedies but not for kids.

District 9 is on my radar. Have not watched it.
District 9 comes out on DVD on Dec 22nd. Looks like it could be good.
Was Gamer any good?
Gamer looks interesting. DVD release date 01-19-10. I will check it out then.
I just saw that Boondock Saints II is coming out! Sweet!
have you seen it yet?..I watched it…
I just saw Katyn last night and it was really powerful. I highly recommend it but warn you to steel yourself first. It gives one a real appreciation that we are lucky enough to play with little plastic toys and pretend instead of living through times like those.
Its a Polish movie, so here’s some facts in case you aren’t familiar with it from Internet Movie Database:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0879843/
“Avatar” was wonderful. A bit predictable but a wonderful experience.
“Sherlock Holmes” I’m a bit split on. It had some things I really liked but a few things that were either missteps in an objective sense or maybe just not where I would have gone. I liked Downey and Law’s bantering and that they didn’t try to tell some sort of ‘origin’ story despite the very Holmes as superhero riff.
Terrific art direction/set design/cinematography though. I love it when they show England as damp and foggy and generally overcast gray. Also liked that London was dirty and crowded.
