Tech rules in global40. What do you do?
-
Hello,
We want to play a game of 1940 global as an amateur with 4 players.
We plan a dozen hours of play.
We wonder about the relevance of adding the optional technology rules or not: indeed in the past some players had a lot of bad luck since they had spent a lot of ipc and had a lot of bad luck at the dice game.
So we would like to know what is the opinion of the community on its optional rules:-
Are they played frequently as an amateur and are they also played in tournaments?
-
In addition we ask, if there is a house rule which would reduce the random side (luck) and which is unanimous either in tournaments or in the community of amateur players?
Thanks in advance for all comments

Hi @hishikawa
Most Global 40 Players don’t play with Technology. At least on this site :)
That is not to say it doesn’t have value, as some do enjoy the randomness.
There is a “Low Luck” and variations of it. You can search for threads. Here is one https://www.axisandallies.org/forums/topic/15133/low-luck?_=1689488392350
Also, there are many House Rules that add Variety. This is a Good one by @the-captain and Company https://www.axisandallies.org/forums/topic/37535/the-captain-s-global-1940-house-rules-collection
BM Mod by the Squad is also quite popular https://www.axisandallies.org/forums/topic/27451/g40-balance-mod-rules-and-download/526
Have Fun Gaming :)

You’re absolutely correct.
While in playing games against myself which are lower stakes I sometimes try it, when it comes to actual, serious games against other players I stay well away from it.
It’s mostly if you just want to spice the game up and you don’t care about winning or losing.
That being said the technology does give you great advantages depending in the power and technology.
Super Subs+Improved Shipyards almost guarantees US or Japanese (depending on who got both of them) dominance in the Pacific.
Of course getting those two technologies is not easy, but it’s not impossible.
